Vista successor in 2009

For my needs it's not worth the money for very little extra over XP. Just it's nice to have something new to play around with, so would fall into a luxury purchase category.

Depending on the user that would be right as everyones needs are different.

I only have a problem when people only talk about the cost of Vista & i get the feeling that they did not pay for the XP that they are using or they would know that XP costs the same even now.
Windows XP Pro costs the same as Vista Ultimate. if you check prices from the same seller & the sames goes for the other version of Windows xp & vista, plus you get more stuff included in vista.

Windows 7 is just the codename. I think Microsoft got scared that if they picked an extravagent codename like "Longhorn" again they would be doomed to failure again :p

Well it's also been codenamed "Blackcomb" (same root as Longhorn) and "Vienna". Although afaik Longhorn is Server 2008?

What annoys me about the anti Vista commenters is about 70% of the have never used Vista and are simply repeating misinformed and outdated opinions of others. This is putting other people off and it is a vicious circle.

If you want to try Vista install it for 60 days with out entering the key and make your own mind up. Don't listen to people who have no clue what they are on about.

Blackcomb was a codename being touted back in 1999. Vienna and Windows 7 are the more recent ones - with the latter being the most popular due to numerous Microsoft employees using it.

Obviously, you'll buy a licence first though ;)

I really didn't know they did a trial VHD image. I stand corrected.

Vista = ME IMO

I'm sorry but as much as I hate Vista (and I do with a passion I can assure you) ME was a million times worse, it wasn't even alpha quality and should never have been released.

Just to qualify that I have tried it :) I'm not knocking it for the majority of users, but for me it is not an option (at the moment).

Firstly i didn't aim it at you did i and i didn't say all of them. When you say you have used Vista do you mean you had a mess in a shop or have you lived with it for an entire month?

People like you annoy me as you think that your opinion is some how more important and should over ride everyone else's.

You have no idea how much I've used it. Tried 32bit and 64bit at home, dog slow HD and lan speeds. Latest drivers and updates...no difference.

Let's be honest, as soon as you realised it wasn't going to be perfect straight out of the box, you gave up and have been anti Vista ever since.

Funny, some people have exactly the same attitude with linux :D

(Disclaimer: Not directed at anyone in this thread just a general statement)

In the other thread you installed it and half an hour latter you formatted. That is not trying it.

That's for a very different reason.
a) they don't play games - which I think is there biggest downfall.
B) they don't run all of MS products - people use MS at work when they come home they don't want to learn new stuff.
C) Similar as above a Windows power user will feel like an idiot using linux.

Generally agree with you, but I've steered ot a bit so I'll shut up for the time being.
