While discussing my rig on a clan forum, one of the German members posted a link to the latest reviews on Germany's biggest review site www.computerbase.de.

This review, while in German, ran benchmarks with the latest ATI drivers. The results are particuarly impressive at higher resolutions. Looks like ATI finally worked out how to turn up the heat.

This link is the latest drivers review:

A few more driver updates and we could see a fight at the lower resolutions and without AA too.

Usually something like that would cause me to change card but I learnt from the 2900XT, it'd still be slow than the 8800GT this 3870 I dont trust that review tbh or many at all I learny me lesson.

The point of me posting is the High Res & AA stuff.

If you are going to go multi GPU, it will be because you have a high res monitor. These results show that in a single card at High res with AA the 3870 is significantly faster.

So if you were considering multi GPU, you would be aware of which is potentially the better value. We just need a site to review the new drivers in crossfire directly against the GT in SLI, and see how they handle the tests.

meh - still gets its *** handed to it on a plate.

Not at high res and AA it doesn't, it does the handing.... Makes the GT look very bad at top res.

Yes!!

Multi GPU the 3870XT is better than 8800GT SLi but I dont think its a single 3870XT is better than an 8800GT at high res with AA I'll be taking this with a pinch of salt It was the case with the 8800GTS 640 Vs 2900XT everyone saying the 2900XT was better and was it ****. If I put a 3970XT in my rig with would not be faster at high res with AA thats all I know. Some of those results are odd too.

I don't get it, the 2900 XT hasn't been boosted to take over the GT, yet its exactly the same card, its just a diff name, on a bigger process, has a bigger bus, and a louder cooler.

I would not trust these benchmarks and also what drivers are being used? Need more than one site to show the same improvements but either way I would never have one 3870XT over one 8800GT sure I might be getting a 3870X2 but thats better than 8800GT.

I would say the gap is closer but the GT still has it for most people as most don't play at 2560x1600 where the XT had beaten it.

Seems fishy 2900XT is the same as a 3870XT except 3870XT is on lower process which runs cooler as loadsa said 2900 should also be up there too.

but the difference might not be much at 1600x1200 with AA and AF and that is the resolution we should be looking at for these cards

even I play at 1600x1200...

Whats the GT using aswell? I cant find em.

Dont see what they doing in drivers to increase its performances and efficiency of stream processors, if ATi can do it for the XT wonder what will be coming for the GT.

The review is abit crappy, GTS 640, 320, the GT, overclocked XT, stock XT, no GTS 512 and no overclocked GT or GTS.

Perhaps that's where they're getting the performance advantage from then! Seems odd that they'd go and do something like that TBH. Bit sill really.
