McCanns going too far?

I suspect nothing much will come of it. The News of The World claimed an exclusive when it was all over the media last night, and one wonders why its taken this long. I believe the NoTW used the word 'sensational', well, right back at you there - the headline reads like they found a 'smoking gun', when in fact its someone who was seen 'acting suspiciously'.
 
A picture of someone who probably only exsists in somebodies mind. Come on anybody looking like that and lurky about in the shadows would have immediately have drawn attention to themselves.

Plus I thought it was ment to be in the evening. They must have got a real good look at him to remember all that detail in the dark and recall it 9 months later.
 
If your kids went missing, you would do everything you could to keep it in the spotlight until they are found. I'm sure your thoughts wouldn't follow the lines of "For the good of the public, lets stop talking about this now because it will bother everyone".

If the media are willing, why shouldn't they use it? If people are willing to donate, why shouldn't they use it to support the remaining family and continue the search?
 
Because too much publicity is almost as bad as no publicity. People get cynical, especially when the impression is given that they're trying to profit from it. Not that that appears to have happened, but the impression is enough.

So basically you are saying that people here that said the McCanns have got something to do with the disappearance of Madeline, should make a donation in a form of apology?

Aren't we entitled to free speech?

There only in this mess becasue they chose to go out on the lash and leave 3 children alone, in a foreign country unsupervised.

I feel sorry the the daughter that has gone missing, not the parents who are to blame.

We haven't had any evidence that they didn't kill her, so I'd dispute whether it was a valid libel threat at all...

unfortunately, as this was an out of court settlement, we'll never see the evidence analysed fully and impartially.

As to no evidence whatsoever, we've been over this a few times, but a very high (circa 80%) of child murders are committed by close family or friends...
 
Still doesn't change my views. Just because there is not enough evidence to stand up to ducking and diving that will be done by their millionaire sponsored legal team, doesn't totally clear them in my opinion.

The facts are Madeline is still missing and there is also no clear evidence to say anybody else was involved.
 
It is important too remember that the McCann's didn't win the libel trial becasue what the press said was un true, they won becasue the various newspapers couldn't prove what they printed was true.

Be fair there is a sketch of a faceless man, from behind that somehow is now a man with a face and features.

Of course you are, but free speech has never extended to libel and slander. The papers have admitted they were wrong to accuse the McCann's of killing Maddy - I just think if you made similar accusations here the right thing to do is admit you were wrong also.

Yes, so they made some stories up that caused real hurt to the McCann's and hampered the search for their daughter - hence the papers have to try and undo that damage now.

But it doesn't mean what they said isn't true, they just can't prove it.

It is a good job the McCann's didn't have to counter prove they didn't have anything to do with her going missing.
