i am quite new to overclocking and got my upgrades done last weekend and got my cpu E2160 @ 3100ghz, so now im trying to overclock my HIS x1900xt 512mb gfx card.

I am using ati tools to oc and getting 681/792 @ 79C, using stock voltage settings 1.425 / 2.086 / 2.086 / 1.486. If i raise the clocks any more i get artifacts. I have tried raising the voltage on the memory and gpu but its not making any difference.

am i at my limit here or is there any advice to oc this card a bit higher ?

680 core is about all i could get stable without upping voltage. The best iv'e managed stable is 715/837 with 1.4core but that is in a very cold room (windows open, heating off, frost outside) and the fan on 100% at about 60C. But for normal use it too noisy at stock let alone oc'ed for me.
You could proably get your clocks higher with lower temps mine will crash at about 70c when its oc'ed.

Are you using the standard HIS cooler/ fan?

I have not even tried overclocking mine - I don't feel the need as it is quite good already:). Anyway, how many more fps do you get by overclocking it?

In a similar machine myself, it doesn't get anywhere near that without getting artifacts and dying.

AtiTool doesn't remember the voltages in vista 64 either so everytime the machine starts up it sets the clocks with 1.175 vcore, which results in a system hang and resetting the gfx driver.

I have to manually set and load the fans/voltage settings myself then load the clock profile before i can play games.

so far im at 681 / 792 and stable with fur benchmark, but i need to test if for stability longer. i am using riva tuner. i get 80C on the core and running stock voltages with all case fans on full but as i can control them they are quiet for normal pc use. I ditched the noisy iceq3 cooler for my zalman vf900, much much quieter on idle and full.

i tried
ati tray tools
ati tools
CCC

i kept hitting problems and increasing the voltage made no difference to helping me get higher clocks. as im using a htpc whhich is also a gaming pc i dont entend to seek higher clocks as long as i have an improvement im happy.
