Please can someone explain to me the logic in giving out aid to a country that has a bigger GDP than ours? A country that has gained massively from our exporting of jobs to them. Ok, sure there's a lot of poverty in India atm which I do feel bad about, but they're supposed to be an economic success story now - companies like Tata and Infosys should pay for it imo, not the British Taxpayer. That money should be re-invested in the UK economy at a time when we desperately need it i.e. now. We pay a lot of tax in this country to make sure that we don't see the Indian kind of poverty on our streets, they're successful now, they should do the same or if not they shouldn't expect other nations to hide their shame for them.

I was wondering about this earlier, I'm not informed enough to have an opinion, but I did thing it was a bit strange.

Makes me wonder what the point is in me writing a cheque of x thousand pounds for my tax bill next week when it'll all just get shipped off to some cause that I won't ever benefit from. Government = shower of ********

Don't panic! It's the Govt. they'll lose all of that somewhere before it even gets to India.

I think the idea is we will get more business our way and become more favourable.

Bloody typical, act first then think about it later! Why couldn't he have taken that £800 million and pumped it into this Country rather than giving it to some 3rd World ****hole?

bribes basically.
visit to India intended to improve business ties and co-operation in the fight against terrorism.

He is using his visits to China and India to promote better trade agreements with the UK.

As he thinks we will benefit more from it. No idea if it will or not.

I've been a Labour supporter my whole voting life. I'd vote for spongebob squarepants ahead of Gordon Brown and the labour party again.

It would be far easier for the **** to just take all my money from my employer and just give me a bowl of rice as and when he see's fit.

India is hardly third world. It's a fast developing country.

Urm:

India GDP (official exchange rate): $805.5 billion (2006 est.)
UK GDP (official exchange rate): $2.346 trillion (2006 est.)

...given the obvious "per capita" issues with India I'm more than happy for a few hundred million of my taxes over several years to build schools and hospitals in India. If you want something to get upset about look at the billions that are being squandered with the Northern Rock fiasco rather than the millions building schools and hospitals.

Let's wait and see how many mothballed Royal Navy warships get sold to the Indians in the next year, how many British oil companies get awarded exploration rights to potential Indian oilfields etc etc. Brown's no mug - he won't be giving away £800m for nothing.

which is going to help it develop a lot faster....and of the reason of it doing that is because of our input then we have a very very strong link with that country, which can strengthen our exconomy by imports/exports, which could possibly mean cheaper goods for us that come from India and therefore a better cash flow for the country.

If you look at it that way ofcourse, plenty of other ways of being able to look at it .

that has a humongous population and the potential for an incredible workforce, if our input means that India strengthens as a country, economy, manufacturer etc etc then we could potentially be better of due to our links with the country ;)
