Hiya,

After shopping around I bought an XBOX360 Pro with;

Extra wireless controller
Forza 2
Viva Pinata
Fifa 08

for £279.99

Thought it was a good deal, it is the HDMI version but not a Falcon :(

Does it really make any difference? I bought it from a well known record store, in Brighton, however I don't live there, I was only there for the weekend.

Personally I would have checked the box before paying for it.
Falcon based boxes state '175W'.
No way am I going to accept an orginal build when my 2nd one gets traded in.

Didnt they have them on display? If so you could have just picked one with 175w on the side. Its diputable atm as to whether or not they make a difference, as they havent been out in the field long enough to get a true failure reading. In theory a smaller CPU die and better cooling should help, but not fully cure the problem as it is the GPU that causes the RLOD. So tbh just stick with what you have, if it breaks it can be repaired/replaced.

Makes no difference imo, the new Falcons are just believed to be more reliable. My Elite isn't a Falcon and i'm not at all bothered.

Happy gaming ! :)

Both shops I asked them to get the box down and they had 203w stickers not 175w so I basically knew it wouldn't be a falcon.

My psu says 203w on it so it's definately not a falcon.

It still could be, some 203w versions are falcons, but they have to be after a certain manufacture date and lot number. I think you can tell by shinging a torch through the honeycomb panel at the side to see if the cooler has a heatpipe, if it does then its not a falcon.

If it dies in the first year then chances are the retailer will replace it.
After that you'll get another 2 years via the repair centre.
Just try and have fun with it, you never know you may be one of the lucky ones who never has a problem with it :)

I would not worry about it, just enjoy it :)

Same here. Just enjoy it. If it fails, worse situation is you're without it for a week or two. Enjoy a bit of reallife and when it comes back it'll probably be a 175w then.

Don't worry.

Xboxes are great enjoy playing with them.

I haven't played on a PC for a few weeks now. Trouble is I have no xbox friends so it's pretty lonely place.

(Don't have a headset yet either though)

I wouldn't count on it.
Mines just come back from repair and they've replaced the motherboard.
If they can't race the fault then they probably replace them.
They also probably have quite a large stock of the 203W units as well at the service centre.

yeah i bought mine early on when all the hype came about, mine is 203watt psu but after checking through the side panel it has 2 inductors instead of 3,
i personally would just look for this and ignore the heatpipe as its harder to spot :)

at the end of the day you have 3 years warranty :)

No you have 1 years warranty, 3 years only applies to 3RRoD. 3rrod isn't the only fault to affect consoles, I should know as my console is currently suffering 1 Red light as the Scaler chip is buggered. This isn't covered by the 3 years. Neither was Nokkons problem, when his GPU exploded.

Might be worth a call to the Trading Standards office to see what rights you have under the Sale of Goods Act. Obviously depends on how old your particular machine is, but if under 2 years from purchase then you may have a good case to get the retailer to sort your problem out (possibly even if it's older!).

You can always do a 'Google' and go in armed with the facts, but I have found that if you explain that you made a call to Trading Standards and you know your rights then many a retailer will buckle. If not then Small Claims court is another option.

It's a shame that 'average joe consumer' is mostly blind to thier rights.
