I purchased £6000 of Northern Rock shares on Friday..

How much profit does that come to? 19k?
(6000 / 0.63) * 0.95 = £9047.619047619047619047619047619

:p:o

Edit: That was what £6000 turned into - obviously subtract £6000 from the above final amount, to work out the profit.

Nice, a few months back I bought a load at 90p and sold around 118p.

Did the same again a few days later (not at same price point) and maded a little gain and then lost a little. Got out before it went lower.

Still up quite a bit but for those of you who see the profit and not the risk - NRK is a big risk right now. Don't buy shares if you can't afford to lose. Luckily i'm still up, but if I had missed that first opportunity i'd be down right now.

Wish I shorted some a few days ago!

There are hundreds of UK share dealers, it's just a case of picking one, setting up an account, loading money, buy shares.
In this particular instance, who did you use?

I've always been curious in shares, but never really known where to start.

Is there a minimum investment?

I used to use iwebsharedealing but they're pretty crap. I now use HSBC as it's linked to my bank account quite nicely.

I'm not a heavy trader so the actual cost of the trade mattered little to me.

I took a big risk with NRK. I waited until it appered to stablise and then bought in. It went up 25% and I got out. I tried again and got bit! So be careful, they can go both ways.

No real minimum investment but remember it'll cost you around £10-15 per trade (buy x / sell x).
