Was in my ICT lesson on Friday, had my iPhone out as it has lots of notes on my ICT coursework on their, my teacher (mr x) doesnt mind people using the pdas etc etc or listening to music while they work as it keeps them quiet n stops them distracting other people in the class.
Now the head of department walks in, all chilled and acting cool, he looks at me and says i would loveee to confiscate an iphone, i go aww, then he goes i could confiscate that right now if i wanted to, i said not really, its mr x's lesson and he doesnt mind us using our things. He replies with i dont care im the head of this so i can confiscate it if i want to, i replied with, you cant walk into someone elses lesson, start bellowing you can confiscate what you want. He doesnt reply turns around and talks to mr x, i mutter something along the lines of jobsworth as im pretty annoyed at this guy, he turns and says ive stepped over the line and do hand over the phone. I go fair enought, put a PASSWORD ON AND TURN IT OFF. He says to collect it at the end of the lesson.
Very well i think, fair enough, now i go to collect my iphone , he wants me top apologise etc etc ok i do etc its all fine, i walk out and head to sixth form centre. Take my iphone out and look at my phone and it has been switched ON, and there has been attempts to put in the password.
Im alarmed at this, go back to office and confront him about it, he says so what, i wanted to find your name, ( by going through my phone and files
) even when i am next door and so is mr x
.
i told him this was inappropriate and im sure the Data protection Act comes in here somewhere. And i walk of annoyed.
I ask all my teachers etc what they thought of the situation, they where all surprised and said the teacher should never have turned on the mobile and on top tried to access it.
As far as im concerned there are 2 reasons for accessing the mobile,
1. you dont know who it belongs to at all ( eg found in street)
2. Inappropriate material.
What would you guys do in this situation, as i am so annoyed at the attitude this teacher holds thinking he can walk all over people. And be able to access other peoples data without consent.
