I think you've got a godawful attitude. I'm still in school, and although I'm not a goody two shoes, I wouldn't ever respond in the manner you did.

Still, he is in the wrong.

However the school explains how in 6th form you are treated like adults etc, your friendly with teachers etc. this is the 1st teacher in this school that is a basic a$$, all other teachers would be all jobsworth, well arent all jobsworth, head of dt different head of geo differnet head business differnet then theres this head of ict whos an a$$
why is he an a$$ for running his department as he thinks is appropriate? It is, after all, his job to run the department and that is what he is doing. How do you know that at some point later in the day your ICT teacher hasnt had it in the neck for letting you use your iPhone? how do you know that by not showing a little respect and common sense that you havent ****** it up for everyone and that the head of ICT will ban phones/mp3 players from lessons?

If school policy dictates that certain materials are not allowed on school premises, and I am sure that they do, then I would say he could reasonably attempt to check the content of your handset, especially after your behaviour prior to him taking it. It would have been out of order, imo, had he deliberately put the wrong code in enough times to lock the handset.

If i was to go through your files without your consent how would you honestly feel ?
He didn't go through your files without your permission - that's about the 5th time in this thread you've asked people that - yet that's not what he did.

1) Your attitude was what led to it getting confiscated.
2) The data protection act is irrelevant. The computer misuse act would be much more relevant.

Then act like one. Not a spoilt 12 year old.

Honestly, A- iPhone at 17? B- Nil repect for teachers (especially the head)? C) - Expecting that employers will be different?

Real life is going to be such a nasty surprise.

But really its the fact that he tried. Refer to the post above yours, it is like someone tried to open the door to your house but its locked. Not simliar, but you get the point.

If I was the headmaster and said i can do whatever i want, i think you should be de promoted, how would you hoestly feel?

I did start typung a reply to this, but then I realised I would have been arguing with a child with a problem. So I deleted it, typed this and have RTM'd the thread. Completely pointless. Read my previous posts.

1.Whats wrong with iphone at 17?
2. I have so much respect for every single one of my teachers apart from this HOD
3. Thank god i will be the employer ( taking over dads business with bro) ;)

I can see what people are saying, he is the boss etc, what would you do at work blah blah ...

but tbh at my company if a senior manager came and started telling me what to do I wouldn't do it until speaking to my manager first, he has control of my "team" and it is for him to decide what we do, if someone else from another part of the company has a problem with what I am doing procedure would be to tell my manager and he can tell me. Not threten me when I am doing what is asked. And by doing this it obviously created tension and he can expect a cocky reply back.

I am with the OP.

Walk into his office and start randomly entering passwords into his computer or something and see how he likes it, but if you really dislike him just wait a couple of weeks and put something in his coffee. :)

As for whats wrong with an iphone at 17, well at about 300 a pop + 18 month contract it = about £900. Did you earn this yourself?

Ok you make it clear you dont want someone to acess your mobile , you put a password in, i try to access your mobile , you have 3 chances to put in password, i try 2 times, how do u feel?

Surely i am paying for the teachers time, and therefore its up to him how he teaches his class. Not a strong point i know, but its just irritating how he addmitted he turned on the phone to try n go through my files to see my name

This is the thing that gets me with private school children... The "I am paying, I am a customer" approach is absolutely null and void.

EDIT: I should know, I am one!

an iPhone is a mobile phone with media and browsing capabilities as opposed to a pda with mobile phone functions, I doubt even the CMA would apply.
Personally, and depending on the specifics of the school rules, I don't think he was necessarily in the wrong to try and see what was on your phone. However, in reality he was just wanting to play with it.
Also, I love it when people make a post and then don't like it when people don't respond in the manner they expected.
