Playing chicken with cars: ******* idiots

I've had a similar thing happen to me before, unfortunately reactions kick in and you hit the breaks. It was in a carpark so I wasn't going to fast any way but they were on bikes so there was more to hit and it would have damaged my car although there would have been plenty of witnesses to back me up.

I can do 25MPH in 5th in my car, petrol 2.2, quite happily. No real acceleration at all tho, but just for cruising, 5th is fine at any real speed 30+ lol.

I think as far as the law is concerned, it's all about witnesses, so if you do it and people around all look shocked, do one of 2 things:

a) pay them all off, or
b) just shout "oh, it's alright, it's just a chav!" :p

I would have got out and knocked his block off or confronted him about exactly what he was doing...then knocked his block off when he thought he was safe :D

Vixen, that's certainly a horrible situation to be in :(

I'm guilty of dropping to 2nd and nailing it (but keeping a wide berth just incase).

They don't half jump out of the way :D

What would actually happen if someone was hit and killed them doing this? I take it the driver would be at no fault in the eyes of the law? Or I would hope so.

Last year a biker was awarded damages after killing a kid who was playing chicken. The biker was seriously injured, and was awarded the damages as the kids were guilty of a 'violent act'.
A group of boys had gathered under a footbridge and dared each other to run across the road. Robert Davis started to run as a van approached but failed to spot that it was being overtaken by the motorcycle. Mr Young, a site engineer, was unable to avoid colliding with the boy, and the bike hit him full in the chest. He died three days later at Bristol Children’s Hospital.

Mr Young, who was travelling at less than 50mph in a 70mph zone, spent two weeks in hospital and was off work for three months. An inquest last year recorded a verdict of accidental death after wit-nesses described how the motorcyclist could not have done anything to avoid the collision. Brian Whitehouse, the coroner, was “completely satisfied that no blame whatsoever” could be attached to him.

Times article.

What would happen if you did hit him & he at worst died? Would part of blame be given to you or? Just wondering really :).

We live in the UK, you'd probably be imprisoned for life and branded an evil murderer. Worse would be if you hit someone and they didn't die, I don't think I could afford the compensation...

Best thing to do is to of just carrying on going @ 40 mph he would have moved once he knew you couldn't give a toss and if you hit him that's one less no-mark to worry about and in some ways a good thing.

My fianceé swerved to hit an unmarked cyclist on a busy dual carriageway.

Ended up on the otherside of the road in a ditch.. car was totalled

If it happens again, don't brake, think of it as a real-life game of Carmageddon

Why did she need to swerve? -not notice him until the last second?
Bicycles are allowed on dual carriageway, although I don't like riding on them.

I was thinking about this the other day, after having to slow down due to cyclist on the dual carriageway. I thought they weren't allowed to ride on the dual carriageway?

They really shouldn't be, say what you like but it's bloody dangerous, especially if the roads are busy.

As long as they stay to the left on the left hand lane I believe it's quite safe as there is a whole lane to overtake them on.

Driving through a high street once, was fairly busy and was doing only about 20. All of a sudden a complete tard of a schoolboy walks out between me and the guy in front with his hands held out as stop signs, looking straight ahead with a smirk on his face as two twittering idiot chav girls watched him and giggled. I hit the brakes, and my car skidded. He heard the skid, lost his "Oh look how freakin cool I am, I'm not even looking at the cars!!" and turned to face me with obvious fear in his eyes - scared so much he was rooted to the spot.
I stopped still a fair way from him, more than a car length, and was also a bit shaken, but I had enough presence to beep the **** and swear copiously as he walked off tail between his legs.
He was obviously shaken, but the girls were giving me every hand signal under the sun as they followed him .

I often wonder how I'd have felt if I'd not braked.

I had my fun in my younger years but one thing I really knew to stay away from is moving cars, they must be totally stupid.

bit harsh isn't it?

Does she really hate cyclists or somthing?

LOL

She was on her way to work about 6am and so it was dark.. didn't see him until the last second which is why she ended up on the otherside of the embankment.

She called my mobile about 6:20am and I rushed to the scene behind a fire engine.. it was like some crappy movie, only scary.

Worse still the cyclist lives on her estate and he was heard talking about it on the bus.. he didn't even stop to check if she was alright, which is what annoyed me.

Thankfully a passing paramedic stopped and pulled her out of the car.
