Well it's not my club but i'm a member.

We could do with a few more members to help pay the few bills we have (pool hire and RIB repair).

We have a notice board at the pool and have photos of events and a little info about the club. We also have the website.

We seem to recruit folks who have already tried diving and are qualified because trainees only seem to know PADI and our way takes more than 4 days.

My ideas so far include a 'bring a friend diving' night and updating the noticeboard.

Has anyone got another idea we can use?

Must be free as we don't make a profit. All money get spent on costs.

Precede "Diving Club" with "Muff" ?

I want to try diving out, but there's nowhere near me that does it indoors (afaik)

Ask members to put up a notice at their workplace if they have a noticeboard.
Flyers are cheap and easily attached to car windscreens or put through letterboxes.
Adverts are relatively cheap to put in local papers.

There's a load of ways of doing it :)

make up flyers

I think you've answered your own question, New recruits want PADI which you don't offer hece to get newrecruits maybe you should onsider offering PADI? Is there another club in the area that does PADI qualification and if so do they have more members?

I guess if you are not PADI then you're BSAC ? Don;t BSAC offer ideas and promotions for new members ?

I would also try to work out who are the type of people that would like to try it. I would imagine that a sky-diving club would have more interested people than a bingo club.

So try to get some other local clubs and societies to put up 'free trial session' posters. That sort of thing....

What is your age range? could you not go into the local senior schools and hand out flyers some might even get home!

get friendly with your local dive shop and ask if he can recommend your club and if you can leave flyers in return you will send your members to his shop for equipment ,maybe he can give a 10% discount to encourage them !

Chat with people in the shop when waiting for nitrox fills .

advertise on notice boards in swimming pools ,gyms ,supermarkets

All dive shops have PADI schools and don't want to give away paying members :(

Why pay us 135 a year for all the training you can do when they can cash in over 250 quid per course!

Edit: that sounds like a good advert in the making ;)

Will look into the local paper and radio. Might even be worth inviting them down for a try. :)
