70 note for an oil change?

Mmm I suppose, although he could keep the reciepts and store that. I've done that with all of my cars, decent or otherwise.

I suppose it depends how much value people place on an ink stamp. Personally I wouldn't mind as long as I could see it had been done. Plenty of garages hire complete monkeys to do these kind of jobs anyhow.

We are talking a 30 quid difference, it's a no brainer. Infact its a no brainer whether its worth getting your hands mucky for the sake of 30 quid anyway, an oil change is never the most enjoyable part of DIY car maintainance.

I beg to differ, slightly warm oil running through your hands is actually a great feeling, getting rid of the oil is not. Never done one since I have my mini and probably never will again I've got to the point where I'd rather pay someone and be lazy until I get really rich then I'll get someone to change the oil on my Merc while I change the oil on my rally spec classic mini!

Looks around right then as the guy quoted me around £25 labour charge.

I'll probably do it myself next time round also just wondering what do you guys do with the old oil then?
Park car over drain, remove sump plug, replace sump plug, change filter, fill with oil. ;)

(OK OK I would never do something like that...... again)

I wish I led a life where £30 was money to throw away!

You would hope not Wicksta as don't forget some day you will be drinking that water from the drain.

30 is how much would be saved mate.

I don't have money to throw around in all honesty but I've gotta agree with the Fox on this, I don't mind getting my hands dirty but would rather get them to do the oil change. Saves the mess and 5 litres of old oil which no doubt the wife would whine about as I'd take forever to eventually get rid of it :)

I wish I had enough time to not worry about the convience of paying someone else to do mundane, boring and messy tasks...

Luckily I have plenty of time!

There will be a point in your lives where people will have to do everything for you whether you like it or not. Might as well enjoy being able to do things for yourself now :p

It's not throwing £30 away - a 4 year old car with big gaps in SH will sell for a lot less than (Standard Price - £30).

Fox is right. Not worth it unless you're planning on keeping the car for another 5 years.

I do all the work on my Integra-R but that's 11 years old and I won't be selling it anytime soon. Plus it's an import so I don't think it has any history at all :D

I do enjoy doing many things, but oil changes have never been one of them :)

Yup. Took my last Civic (04 plate) to Honda for servicing, which I hated tbh - getting those useless gits to do work on it just for a stamp in my service book.

With the current Civic (W plate) we change the oil/brakes/plugs etc. on the drive. Quite enjoyable actually! Though I did take it in last week for an engine mount, no chance I was going to attempt that.
