Hello all,

Would there be anyway to roughly figure out the estimated depreciation for the new Scooby STI's? the hatchback ones!

For the next year or 2?

Thanks! :)

Take a peek at what happened for the previous model, and the one before that. Make an informed guesstimate from those figures.

Trends usually stay the same.

Absolutely loads, Imprezas drop like a brick in a pond. I would expect the new one to drop even worse given how bad it looks. STi isnt out yet anyway is it?

Not sure dude, I'm just wondering :)

Thanks for the info tho Para, will check it out!

EDIT: Has a price on their site for £25k new...

when they stick to the road like this......

....the prices can only go up! :p

:D

If you buy a car brand new, say for £25k,

How much money do you lose instantly in depreciation ?

Didnt you make this mistake before :p

I'm not buying it new :p

However...I want to roughly guess the estimated depreciation for the time I turn...I'm just curious....:p ;)

It may stick to the road, but damn is it fugly.

The only reason to buy a Scoob is good performance for your money. So buy a couple of year old STi/WRX blobeye or hawkeye with the Prodrive pack and laugh all the way to the bank.

You could even find a pristine used WR1 for the money a new STi would cost you.

Plus you'll save nearly £6,000 and have a far better car.

I depends on how much the car buying public wants one.. id say the chances on the scooby aint great with the new evo out also.. id imagine a lot of people would go for the evo given the choice?

Don't forget the new oness are also likely to fall foul of the horrific £400 or so tax, so this may well influence depreciation more so then the classic model.

It looks great. I have seen it in the fresh as well.

Subaru has never been a looker, the same goes for Evo. If I had the choice, I would go for Subaru and as for being a grown up man, I would look like a prank sitting in Evo.

Anyone who thinks it looks like a Daewoo needs their eyesight checked out.

How hard is it to tell the difference? ;)

I don't think it is going to sell well due to the rising cost of fuel and road tax. Even after the sales of Subaru went down in 2006.

Subaru will bring out the diesel versions this year so we'll wait and see.

when i bought mine I researched prices of cars for sale as old as when I plan to sell mine. So for example I plan to sell mine in 3 years making it 4 years old so I researched pricing of 4 year old cars.

Did various mileages and conditions etc and got enough stats to make a nice graph against the cash I owe on it.

Obviously this is still random as it doesnt take into account new models coming out and general market swings but its the best you are going to get.

Only tip I can give you is done buy new unless leasing/paying 100% cash, look for pre-reg or even better privately owned 6 months old and avoid the initial impact to minimise your depreciation factor. You will always lose money but it doesnt matter as long as manage not to go into negative equity. ie dont buy a new Daewoo on a personal loan
