I'm planning to upgrade my 3800 x2 (stock) for a very cheap C2D system, as I think £80-90 for 2Gb (branded ram off the bay)

to overclock my 3800x2 is too much. I'm looking for the cheapest C2D setup that would allow me to hit around 3ghz, I'm unfamiliar

with intel motherboards, and need one thats good at overclocking etc. CPU will be propbaby be the E2140 - unless thats a bad choice

Any help/advice is very much appreciated.

Just orderd the above for system i was asked to build to hit 3Ghz, should do the job no problem, although you will need aftermarket cooler such as Arctic Freezer or the simular looking Akasa one. :)

Bit over budget with delivery tho :(

Thanks for the quick reply, would the ram be able to overclock, or would it have to be on divider?

That CPU can hit higher than 3Ghz so in theory yes, the 2180 should do just as well but uses lower multi; which means more stress on the ram as push the numbers up, hence why i went for the 11x multi chip ;) You wont need top drawer if you are running memory at stock with oc cpu, which is more than possible with Intel builds (Read up if your unsure about that). The Geil ram above is good stuff and what i use, but tbh you wont need that to hit 3Ghz using E2200.

I have seen a lot of people on overclockers with similar low end cpus clocked very highly, so could i, in theory just look at their settings and use them providing, they are around 3.0-3.2ghz, although i'm aware that hardware doesn't clock the same?

The dividers allow you to mess about with memory a fair bit, so you should be able to run memory at say 800 or just a smidge over whilst the cpu sits at 3 to 3.2Ghz. So yeah as you say 'could follow someone else's simular build' or just ask once you have the above parts, people im sure will help as allways ;) Edit: If you wait a day i will have the above and can tell you how i got on come 9pm (ish).

how far would i be albe to go with a well ventilated case and a stock cooler, or a cheap aftermarket one, as i don't want to have to
fit something large that requires me to fix a new bracket to the motherboard?

also, forgot to mention, i only have a Coolermaster iGreen 430W, and i had no problems when using it with my amd system; however are there any
different power connectors on an intel mobo compared to my a8n-sli se?

It'll be fine. I've had the same PSU for an AMD and Intel build. Same AMD board as you actually.
