Gym achievements

That's a great weight! :)

It's amazing actually as you see some very slim people lifting reasonably heavy weights. It can be a little embarrassing sometimes :o

i have a 50in chest and dont manage 100k thats embarassing

50in of muscle or just mass? I went to a conference at work with one of my colleagues, he's a big guy, thick arms, thick fingers, tall, very wide and very just "huge". Anyway he decided to come with me to the gym where unfortunately they only had cable machines (still better than nothing) he struggled benching 60kg  Strength and muscle seem to not always be directly linked it seems.

Powerlifting is a different skill/discipline to bodybuilding though, however I always thought the 2 were linked loosely?

Maz - sure why not?! There is also another thread that was started wayyy back, but I started this thread myself without realising there was a similar thread already! :o

Its a solid enough mass, no wobbling when im running but its not tight skin over muscle. Most of the circumfrence comes from my lats and back, although at a guess my pecs are about 2 inches clear of my ribs at their 'peak' i seem to have gained mass very well in my newbie year (most likely because i had a good training plan, good equipment, good diet and supps, oh and never missed a single train ever :D) but strength hasn't changed a lot. Its all mental though a bit of CNS and im sure i can push more than i do, everything on the bench FEELS heavy, really hits me in the shoulders for some reason, geuss its just not my exercise, ill prolly never manage 200k+ but tbh if you can rep around 150k you can have any physique you like including cutler/coleman style.

Yeah I see your point. Besides it's reps that build the muscle, 1RM doesn't really. My chest is mainly down to my back too (though I measure up at 45"). I agree chest "feels" heavy for some reason, I find it hits the shoulders too. Though having done a big day on incline and decline yesterday I felt it even more - incline uses a lot more shoulder effort as you know. I do have a bit of an inherent weakness in my shoulders, but as you say I think a lot of it is psychological.

I had a good day today,

Squats: 3 sets of 170*5
Bench: 3 sets of 105*5
Romanian Deadlift: 3 sets of 120*5

I have been training since November after at least 6 months out of the gym. Given that my previous 1RMs were 180 on the squat, 105 bench, 200 deadlift I'd say that I was probably the strongest I have been. At about 110kg I'm also the heaviest :D

That's fantastic progress. My aim is to reach around 100kg in weight, but my targets are similar to yours though my bench is little stronger than yours, though your 200kg DL has pipped me! Squats I'm still only around 140 - so I've got quite a bit of catching up to do! :D

Could have swore you said a 170Kg bench in one thread i saw, i was mighty impressed!

So you could bench 140Kg at 11.5 stone last June and now you're 1.5 stone heavier and only looking for 145Kg bench 8 month later? Have you had a lay off mate

Its good lifting for your bodyweight all the same ;)

Maybe he had an injury or has been concentrating on other aspects of his training? Or maybe increasing the number of reps on lower weights for bench!

/devil's advocate :p

Cheers Freefaller, I am quite bottom heavy so have always been lagging a bit on the bench, but it's coming along. I'm not doing full deadlifts at the moment so I'm not sure if I could hoist the 200 at the moment, probably not! By the sounds of it you are beating me on the BF% as well as the bench, I'd guess that at least 25% of me is the bad stuff.

True, or maybe he meant 6 plates was his 1rm last June and now he wants to go for reps with it?

170KG Bench would be lovely, but that's a long way off.

I moved house, changed job and my life completely really. It's taken me a very long time to get back to it, but I'm feeling good now. Building a gym at my own place and cracking into it hard and heavy. I've added some unwanted fat aswell but tbh, that's staying until the April/May Cut.
