Has anyone here got any experience with spray painting a 360 case?

gf's brother's 360 (warranty voided) RROD'd on him, i've towel wrapped it, which worked for 2 days, and threw it on with no fans today, overcooked it and cured it yet again!

So this week (once my damn Torx 10 screwdriver arrives!) i'll be trying to do the x-clamp fix to see if that has more luck! (if anyone knows the dimensions {exactly [Damn bracketing system]} of the screws & washers needed in the x-clamp fix, could you please let me know? All i can find is "kits" offered for about £8, and i'm not paying £8 for 4 screws and 16 washers!

Anyways, onto the subject, thinking of spraying it silver or yellow (his favourite colour) for him, if I can get it fixed to a good working standard! Does anyone know which paints / primers (Not even sure which I need?) would work best on the 360 shell? Pretty new to spray painting things like this, so any help would be appreciated!

Merci!

pretty easy to do if you take your time,

halfords spray cans are your friend

sand it
big hit of plastic primer
sand some more
paint of your colour choice,
sand
paint
laquer
sand
laquer
repeat until happy

plenty of gides on painting plastics out there so i wont bore you with one

but its all in the prep work

take your time, use quality materials and you wnt go far wrong,#

and as for your saning in between coats its the key to a perfect high sheen finish.

see my resprayed my ntl box thread :)

Ah I wondered what the sanding between coats was for, that's something I wouldn't have known about.

or it could have red ringed before the 360 warranty extension was announced and he had attempted to fix it himself thus voiding his warranty ;)

:)

Thanks for the links and advice, have found the screws etc.. on B&Q thanks to Wyrdo :D

Yes, the console is modified, it was a screamer, so I got it flashed to a slower speed so that he won't be deaf by the time he's 16!

As of now, its just a project for me, I want to clamp it and get it pained all yellowy (his favourite colour) for him, just so i have fixed it! :)

Just thought I would check as some people do not know about the extended three year on the RROD. :)

But yeah good luck with the painting you should post some pictures up when its done let us all see the finished project! :)

Will do :)

Just going to have to do some stage by stage shots, Torx 10 finally arrived today so I can get the board out properly, too! :)

Decided for testing i'll use my Wired 360 controller and see how that comes out :)

Job interview at 2pm tomorrow so i'll pop on down to Halfrauds after that!

Are there any specific primers/laquers i need to get? And just normal Halfords paint?

Very new to spraying/modding anything like this! :)

I sprayed my xbox360 steering wheel the other day. i used Plasti-Kote spray paint from B&Q.

It's really good stuff and it can be used on nearly any material. i just wiped the steering wheel down with an old t shirt the sprayed it. turned out great.

Heres a pic, the normal pad is a proper bought elite pad, for comparison :)

Nice, tbh when I looked at the photo I thought that the controller was sprayyed as it looks it

Looks good mate! tempted to do a wee window, but lack of experience is putting me off! :)

Only one query, with the front panel of the 360, if i want to remove the power button and sync button, its looking like they'll need prising/snapping off and then to be reglued after? :(

I have always wonder, when Ferrari, Lamborghini paint a car they charge up the car and the paint and spray it and it sticks to the paint by static, could you not rub the plastic like you do with a balloon and the spray paint will stick perfectly.
