I phoned Adrian Flux today to explore reducing my current insurance on my modified mk1 escort, which is currently in bits in the garage being restored. I pay £61 per month insurance on the car and as I can't drive it I thought this was quite a bit.

So When I phoned them, I found out that the 'classic car policy' I thought I was on, was in fact a modified car policy. And the value of the car (5k) which I have been paying more for (due to raising it when I took out the policy) is in fact only an indication of the value, and not what I will get back should the 30 year old classic get solen etc.

Im not happy. I've been mis sold this policy and will be taking this further with them. They're going to phone me back tomorrow after they listened to my call ~6 months ago.

I'll keep you posted.

She said that I would get the "market value" of the car at the moment if it was stolen. Now that is ~3-20k depending on spec/condition of the car. 2 dr shell go for £2000 nower days, with no running gear.

But a dorris selling one would part a car in std form for £200.

So im a bit annoyed.

Sadly I don't think you're the first person to have had troubles with them. They used to have a good reputation on SXOC but this has gone downhill bigtime!!

cant really comment, yes im insured with them however i havent done anything to induce contact with them...yet

that and my car being a run of the mill japanese shopping trolley, it was hard for the east winch based call team to get it wrong

What are their quotes like for young (17) yr old drivers with a total standard car? Better or worse than say Endsleigh/eCar/Direct Line ? I only ask because i don't want to spend 20minutes on the phone to be told some ridiculous figure :)

Ah the company that acknowledged reciept of my modifications, and promptly lost them, leaving me uninsured for about 6 months when I rang to query any change in cost to add a couple more.

Sounds like nothing's changed

Basically you have to take pictures of absolutely everything showing the quality and condition, if you've got expensive or rarecomponents all you can do is have picutres and keep the receipts. The it's a matter of fighting your corner as hard as you can in the event of a claim.

Insurance companies will screw you over at the drop of a hat, just be warned. They are very very clever at this through sheer experience and they have a dedicated department at the other end to deliberately catch you out in case they can get out of paying you. I know this first hand, I had a scooter stolen a few years ago and I got nothing back from the insurance, then nothing back from the 'gold' insurance I took out on the finance either. All on a technicality unrelated to the theft.

Adrian Flux is the only insurance company I refuse to deal with after they lost my insurance "file" and gave me 7 days to resend the information (driving license, proposer form, immobiliser certificate) otherwise they were going to cancel my insurance!

I did and they "lost" that as well. Took months to get sorted in the end and only after I had made an official complaint.

Was with them for years, never had a problem with anything throughout :)

Same here - nothin' but flawless service from them for almost 3 years now, on 8 different cars - some with extensive modifications.

Just a case of double and triple-checking all the paperwork and making sure it's in order and you're getting what you asked for, as with any company.

As with all internet posts you're infinitely more likely to hear 50 bad tales (as these are the ones that get posted) to every good one, always leading to a distorted view.

I'm with them currently, so far they have been great, not got anything wrong yet. I had to inform them of a change of registration on my car that was easily done and i got a replacement certificate the next morning.

Obviously i cant vouch for how the are when you need to claim i hope i never have to find out.

They are good with my Van. The list of mods is long and they offer like for like cover on all the parts I have listed. Their agreed value worries me as they won't agree on a value......

I did have Tesco value insurance on my Elise and when I stacked it had to take them to court. Tesco argued it was worth 12k, I said 14k, the judge said 15.2k + 8 months interest = a result :).

Proof that insurance companies will try anything really. They are all as bad as each other. I was considering going to move back to Hic soon with the Van, but Adrian flux just bought them I hear......
