Spec me a first car at 23 years old

Other than that I agree, CC isn't essential.

You would do but then again 10 years ago people were saying AC wasnt important. Now, generally, only people who dont have AC try and convince others it isnt useful. It's largely the same with cruise - a few people with it dont like it, lots of people without it try and convince themselves they dont need it anyway, but lots of people with it and experience of using it extensively realise how utterly useful it is on a long trip.

And with so many cars available with it, its not as if you need to go out of your way to get a car with it. It's hugely useful on longish trips (And even short speed camera infested ones) so really, why NOT have it?

ive had cruice control, and it is usefull for going through speed traps on the m4 and the like

but i found myself constantly having to brake and re-adjust it whenever i used it on the M1 etc..

Adaptive cruice control on the mercedes, god yes. But normal cruise just doesnt seem to be any better in peak time motorway traffic, because you just cant maintain a constant speed at peak time on the motorway.

my point is you do it that much, you may as well just drive it manually :)

like i said, this was when i was driving cars for work and was driving between 9-5, along with everybody else driving a car/van/lorry for work so the motorways were busy. I dare say its not as bad when the motorways are quiet.

I used it when I drove into London at the weekend, even on the M4 and M25. It was a Saturday at 5pm so not rush-hour busy but it was still pretty darn busy. As the guy above said, you just need to know how to use it.

I've found myself using CC all over the place.

On the way to germany it was a godsend, on the way to work when getting into a long 30mph zone i will simply set it to 32mph or in a long 60 zone set it to 65.

cruise is amazingly useful, I even find it of use in 30 or 40mph limits to keep a average speed.

I've had AC and every car i've had and i HATE it so much :p its something about the "fake air" :( I'd rather have real air tbh..ie open the windows a bit.

Never had CC, i'd imagine it'd be handy especially for roadworks where you have to stick to 40 / 50 but pretty unusable in busy motorway traffic.

Agree that its sometimes nice to feel the breeze on your face and sometimes i turn the Climate control off and have all 4 windows down.

However on a hot day having the windows down just turbocharges warm air into your face...

using cruise control is dangerous in heavy traffic, it should only really be used in medium-low traffic.
using it in heavy traffic is stupid, as you should really go with the flow of other cars, rather than keeping a constant speed, plus you'll be adjusting it all the time anyway, and if tap the brakes to disengage it, people behind will start braking

in belgium, cruise control is banned on the whole stretch of motorway between brussels and antwerp.. make sense imo

how is AC "fake air?" it's just air that's been cooled
it's not like it's creating air within the dash :p
if the car has auto climate control, i'll leave it on
manual A/C is a different matter tho

i dont think cruise control would swing me towards choice of car for a 50mile trip to work (probably at peak times)

i do find it very useful though on long journeys/quiet roads

I can see your point, but I have driven several cars with cruise, and just don't like it. I don't feel like I'm connected/driving. I can see entirely how it may be useful through an average speed section on the motorway or a long 30 limit, but I'm quite happy doing it myself. If you love it, that's cool, its just not for me.

You have overlooked the point of CC, the point is to take your mind off the speed, means you don't have to keep checking and over long distances this makes a huge diff!

I probably have, but in the same vein I don't like driving auto's. I like driving (no really, even long distances) and so don't mind checking speed/changing gear etc.

Horses for courses I guess.
