I know its a strange difference but am I really going to see the price difference between these two

OcUK ATI Radeon HD 3870 XT 512MB GDDR4 £129.24 inc

EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS "Crysis Edition" 512MB GDDR3 £211.49 inc

Almost £100 difference

I have the money for the GTS now I have sold my Xbox360

I have read quite a few reviews but none of them seem to compare the two cards, each review containing the GTS 512mb iv'e seen dosn't have the 3870 in it and every one I've seen with the 3870 in it compares it with the old GTS.

I use a Dell 2405 which I have been extremely happy with and no plans to change it

Gaming at full res 1920 x 1200 would be nice but I am happy to play at 1280 x 720 as the monitor scales pretty well.

So what do you reackon ???

Go in between and get a GT :D Faster than a 3870, a little slower than a GTS.
 
Just the very same thing I am trying to decide on!

I have the money for the GTS also but trying to work out if the price difference is better or equal to the performance gain?

I looked at the 8800GT's but they are virtually the same cost as the new GTS's and I'm under the impression that they are also hotter and louder than the GTS?

Anyone know how the temps and noise on the ATI 3870 compare to the 8800GTS?

GT's are nowhere near the price of a GTS...

You can get a GT for about £160, cheapest GTS is £200.

Also all new GT's come with the same cooler as those on the GTS.

Hi Hex,

Thanks for your help so far, I am after a decent GTS or GT or 3870 with a good warrenty and with GTS's being about £200 here and the cheapest GT on T.W.O from OCUK is £162.14 and thats a PNY.

If you have the money I'd probably get the gts 512mb, although the 8800gt is certainly the bang for buck card at the moment.

Only reason to suggest a 3870 would be the price difference and you not wanting to fork out the amount of cash for the gt or gts.

I don't think there is that much performance difference between the gts and the gt though, so it's upto you, I just know that if I could afford it I would go for the faster card.

GT's are £164 here, so id remove that price.

Id get the GTS, if you can do 1920x1200, then you may as well use it, or if you can stretch a bit, then the GTX would be better. :)

Thought you just weren't allowed to say where the cheaper cards are, I see people stating the price of *a competitor* all the time.
 
A mod can't be everywhere.

I just didn't want the guy getting a suspension (as you don't get told the reason normally). As long as he reads the FAQ (quite informative) he'll be fine.

Just returned with my GTS :)

Take it best to download latest drivers from Nvidia rather than use the ones on the cd ?

The sticker on the card needed pushing down had lifted off in places

Looks a bit of a beast :eek:
Just downloading driver then will get on with sticking it in

I'd be interested in knowing how hot yours gets in idle and load but I'd really like to know how loud it seems to you?

Never mind the gf get the card tested. :p

The differnce in size is because the 70mb set is the International set, contains other languages as well as English, 40mb set just contains English. :)

Excellent cards the GTS's, you won't be dissapointed with that. :D

I reckon I pity your Maths ;):D

Thats £80 diff, which is a long way off or not depending on which way you look at it.

Anyway, 2 ways to look at it, 1) you bought the GTS which is pretty awesome :D and 2) you can be-little people with less performing cards below you.

How is the GTS in terms of noise as some reviews vary on this front.
