Sorry, it's not for Impreza just yet but...

The Subaru Legacy Sports Tourer and Outback estates will be available with a 147bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine and cost from £19,995.

In the Legacy Sports Tourer, the engine gives the car a 126mph top speed and a 0-60mph time of 8.5sec. In addition, it will return 49.6mpg and emit 151g/km of carbon dioxide.

The Legacy Outback has a top speed of 124mph and a 0-60mph time of 8.8sec. It records 48.7mpg and emits 153g/km.
Impressive for Subaru's first diesel!

Apparently it's fairly decent to drive too. I can see it making it's way into the Impreza and being miles better than the 2.0 petrol version. Maybe they'll sort a 2.5 diesel version as the WRX alternative?

"Subaru launches first diesel engine" nonsense, people have been making diesels for years.

I'll get me coat...

Not in the article

It needs to be more than 320 metric torques, or I'm officially not interested.
Dunno, it has 0-60 times of 8.5 seconds so it's impressive considering that Legacy is a big car with 4WD!

50mpg is a very respectable considering that you get around 30mpg from much slower 2.5 litre petrol! 171 bhp and 0-60 times of 11 sec and thats with nearly 20mpg less!

3.0 petrol is quicker but then you have to deal with less than the half mpg (23) of the diesel model!

Probably because it uses the same block size as the larger engines.

Always had a soft spot for the legacy estates, such nice cars. Any way, i thought the outback was what the legacy is called in Australia? or do they just use that name as a variant now?

outback is the estate with raised suspension
like the audi allroad is to the A6 avant

edit- in europe, it appears that you can have a saloon outback in north america

thats pretty poor performance from a 'modern' 2l turbo derv.

However, reliabilty and strength are clearly the name of the game here.

I'm quite glad as I love the new Legacy Tourers and this might swing my mind round to looking at one.

It's a sad day for the motor industry! Subaru should not be allowed to consider it!
Sabaru has lost the sales from 2006 onwards and thats way before Impreza was launched.

Due to the rising cost of fuel/road tax, I guess people want diesel and here it is.
