Eagle F1s on a Cupra R

Never ever ever have I pushed my car to understeer. It will only understeer right on the limit of grip and then I simply lift off into a bit of oversteer. Yet the outside of both front tyres is bald wheras the inner edge and middle bit is fine. The car is standard and doesn't have positive camber, it could probably do with a bit of negative but sadly it isn't adjustable.

If you're driving the car that hard then you are pushing the tyre hard on the outer edges, and I suspect that you are toe'ing in and the hard driving style is exagerating the wear.

All modern cars will have negative camber (or possibly zero camber). Positive camber is for old cars with cross ply tyres! It's possible if your car had adjustable camber then it may of been adjusted incorrectly or sometimes it moves hitting potholes and stuff like that. As yours is not adjustable I suspect that your probably toe'ing in too much.

I solved the problem on my previous car though.

Used different tyres ;) Yoko A539s, lasted 10k and wore evenly.

Do you know why a FWD car understeers?

Understeer is not just a handling characteristic of FWD cars. A RWD and 4WD car can understeer too. Likewise, any car could oversteer too.

It all depends on how the car is set up and how it's driven.

Infact my mate is using Toyo R888s on his VTS and they have outlasted my Eagle F1s and they are a soft semi-slick tyre!

They are BMW wheels and are the standard tyre size for an E39 Sport on 18's.

I've had very good wear out of my PS2s and the uneven wear issue is why I stayed away from the F1s I may look at the new model

My mate had F1s on is LCR and they went like 50 pence pieces.

I know, people just seem to assume all FWD understeer and all RWD oversteer

Damn, getting the F1 Asymmetrics fitted to my Jap barge tomorrow, hope they are an improvement over the tyres (GSD3) and pics posted here. Currently on Yokohama AVSdBs with no uneven wear issues.
