As title ! Got a delivery from overseas and it was delivery on payment for import taxes, says I couldnt have the parcel until tax was paid. This was for £44.57 and I only had £50 on me, no change, and iv lost my cheque book:rolleyes:. So I says to him thats all iv got,he says no worries, ill get change from my van, buts its abit down the road so you dont mind waiting ? I said yeah, just pop it through the letterbox, he said no probs.

Anyways some time passes, nothing, I look outside, nothing, walk up the road the way he went........gone, last thing I see is him stuffing my £50 in his pocket and walking off

Now ok, its only a fiver, but its the principal that counts ! what a &£*" !

Whats even more worrying is the 'pink receipt' he gave me says on the bottom 'a final invoice will follow where actual charges differ from estimate'.........this is worrying, is this an actual recipt ?.....has he just infact nicked £50 off me ? He said to me though I could not have the parcel until payment was recieved or is this infact a load of bull ?

Im starting to worry he wont have ticked off 'tax paid' on this computer and pocketed the £50 himself, leaving me with an outstanding bill..........even though iv more than paid it !!

Any help would be awesome guys

I got one of those pink slip things recently and that comment about "actual charges may differ" worried me too.

It does sound a bit too blatant and petty to be genuinely theft. All I can suggest is that a) maybe he forgot and b) maybe he had no change and they'll send you a postal order for £5 or something. However, you'd expect him to tell you this so it's unlikely.

bet there wasn't even any tax to pay, you've been rinsed.

do you regularly give away £50 notes to unknown blokes that come nocking at the door?

The guy would be dressed as a courier, presumably with the courier van, holding the OP's parcel that he was expecting, with a proper pink slip invoice for tax fees, I wouldn't really call him "unknown". (Or at least, I'd hope this was the case...)

Oddly enough no, but he had a UPS uniform on, all relevent paperwork and the parcel I was waiting for from HK......ergo its likely to be UPS who are making the delivery, due to all relevent paper work, you wouldnt of thought it would be suss would you

On the phone now.........the person I spoke to yesterday (yes I did phone them yesterday oddly enough when this took place)....didnt care one bit, he was just like 'yeah whatever' and was from another country UPS SUCK.

Speaking to a lady now who has been more than helpful, has got in touch with the depot and has told them to bring me the change within the hour, luckly it seems on the system it is marked as paid.

Seems the company is so huge its hit and miss as to weather you get good service or not, aweful, just aweful.

good news then!... reminded me of that scam that was uncovered on TV where a shop was selling Wii's online for £220 (at the time when it was sold out everywhere). Customer ordered online, fake courier turned up with the excuse that the credit card payment failed and he had to pay cash on the door instead or it gets resold. Customer paid, opened package later to an empty box with a brick in it!

He probably had no change in the van and was going to drop it off / get a cheque sent another time. I can understand him not bothering to walk back up to you just to tell you he'll have to put a cheque in the post - it's only a fiver after all

Make sure you don't get anything else delivered by UPS, it may be the same guy delivering it :)

yeah i britain they dont have to wear the uniform

UPS sucks they turned up a week late to collect a package then didn’t deliver it for a week (by this time its Christmas so where its supposed be going it closed) keep it in a van (where the packaging get wreaked) then charge me for the pleasure.
my advice phone them and ask politely for your money back. then if they say no tell them very politely that your getting the police and trading standards involved. if that doesn't work take it to a small claims court and attempt to screw them for all they got

A fiver might be a lot of money to a student or someone out of work. To say you're coming right back with someone's change then buggering off is unacceptable. I'm sure if he intended to give the change back later he would have done so on the same day.

Exactly, so you'd have given him until the end of the day before getting him in trouble (possibly) with his bosses and causing undue grief? From the OP it appears it was delivered today and he jumped on the phone to UPS to complain straight away.

As I said, the guy could be completely genuine (if not as thoughtful as he could be) and now mighty annoyed with him.
