HTPC as Blu-Ray player

A DVD-Video scaled to 1080p can look very good indeed, but the film must be a high bitrate, with minimal picture artefacts. Otherwise it won't look so good. The first DVD-Video I watched on my Samsung M87 was Schlinders List, picture quality is fantastic. It's a two discer.

Cool, that sounds better :) Does it tell you the bitrate on the back of the box? And if so, what bitrate should i be looking for?

I run my HD-DVD's via SPDIF and get 5.1 DD fine, audio sounds great to me! :)

Getting Blu-ray Friday - still gonna use SPDIF and get 5.1 DD. I would'nt worry to much about audio.

Ain't humans 95% visual creatures anyway :p. (Dont quote me)

All joking aside HDaudio would be nice but im not prepared to spend £400 on an amp after not having my budget one for that long (2 yrs).

Is HDAudio leaps and bounds better that DD?

If you have a half decent speaker and amp setup? YES! At the moment I am pretty sure no HDDVD/BR playing software can output HD Audio via HDMI.
