VR-Zone has learned that Radeon display driver 8.45 v1.3 will improve performance and compatibility on the Radeon HD 3870 X2 over the current 8.45 v1.0 driver. The current set of driver is facing performance issues with games right now so benchmarks on this set of drivers are not reflective on the actual gaming performance yet. The new set of driver will be out before 28th January according to AMD.

Real or not ? How much more is possible ?

all games are compatible with crossfire, its how well they have been designed to work with it is what counts. take games with the nvidia logo on it for example - they wont perform as well as other cards as they are focused on nvidia

I was under the impression that Crossfire worked better than SLi on games that don't have profiles - is this true?

Thats the way I've understood it - crossfire makes use of profiles within the drivers rather than any kind of game profiles.

Could be different for this card though who knows until we get definitive reviews!

Is this going to give a boost to those of us who are running two seperate 3870s in CrossFire? I don't know if it will because I don't know how the architecture of the 3870X2 differs.

Shame were not going to get to see how this driver performs, as all the reviews have been done with that 8.45 v1.0 driver, just have to wait a while and see if any do updated reviews with these new drivers, as they can't redo all the reviews now as they are all finished, they were all done for a 23rd release, so you may as well not bother reading the reviews out now, and any reviews that are coming from Anandtech/Guru/Firingsquad etc... as they are all invalid now, ouch, what a major **** up. :D :D

ffs its the 2900 all over again, Really I truly hope its not (as I really want one) but its looks like its shaping up to echo last may with mythical drivers that will make it a beast, For the record I'm still waiting for them for my rubbish (only word to describe it) HD2900XT.
