What are Microsoft normally like with Service Packs? Do they announce a date well in advance or normally leave it until the last minute?

I ask as that date is only three weeks away.

Is this service pack going to have much new to offer over the fixes or is it just a handy way of getting the fixes?

It's more than just bug fixes. There's a few design changes in there as well.

For instance, it actually upgrades the kernel to a very similar one that Windows Server 2008 uses. You can read that as a NT 6.1 kernel which has had 2 years more improvements done to it over what Vista is currently running on today.

Is it going to be any different to SP1 RC1? after losing 10fps in games (minimum...ive lost more in most games..) just by installing vista...id like that 10fps back or im going back to XP by the end of feb.

I don't understand this, surely with your setup you're getting 60+ FPS anyway (apart from Crysis) so why does losing a couple of frames matter?
