What a joke this country is coming to. What next?
People getting paid to stop smoking.
People getting paid to stop drinking.
People getting paid not to go out and rape and pillage.
People getting paid to have a hair cut if they are too hairy.

What a load of oar locks

So, if I just eat lots of lard, which is pretty cheap, I'll put on weight for not much cost.
Then lose the weight and get paid to do so. This gets me money.
Then I just have to repeat several times and I'll be rich.

Sweet :)

To be fair, if they get rid of their obesity problems its a weight (;)) off the NHS. While I agree that people should do this off their own backs, the sad fact is that the chav population don't do anything that resembles hard work unless they see serious financial benefits. Who else is going to pay for their Sky HD package if its not the government?

Same as people getting incentives to quit smoking, its an investment, i dont really agree with it but its financially feasable for the NHS. It also will increase the amount of feasable future wife targets.
Its there to help anyone/everyone who needs it.
Bit like them giving out free condoms, or educating about sexual health, bet none of you complained about that?

You buy the fags, you pay the stupidly extortionate tax to the nhs, I think that it's not an investment at all, they'll just be losing money if anything.
The problem is the people with overweight children and probably still going to have overweight children, they feed them on crap and buy them a gaming system, doesn't matter how many goverment handouts you give the lazy parents, they've ruined their kids life already because you know they're too lazy to change their ways.

Meh, according to you lot anyone over weight is a huge drain on the NHS so I don't see how you can consider this to be a bad thing as well if it helps ease the load (so to speak).

How is that the same as fat taxes and the like?

Because treating STDs isn't free and they're really quite common. Paying for the education and supplies when the average person could pay for them is very similar.

ok fag problems bad example :D

Condoms and sex health education : attempt to prevent teen pregnancys(bennefit drain) and to reduce STI infections etc(GUM clinic is free of charge service is it not? fairly sure all those drugs and doctors and nurses cost money!)

i get your points actually about it relieving the NHS of the burden in the future. but this is once again the government just acting on the results of things, not going to the source and removing the problem.

i just think that this country has so many problems sprouting from peoples lack of respect to others, themselves, the country, and the world. something has to be done about the causes of the problems, as it isn't financially viable to just keep acting on the results of the problems.

That was my first thought! :D

So what about the doctors telling people to lose weight /stop smoking other wise if they have an over weight / smoking medical condition they do not recieve NHS help. As they chose not to listen and help themselves. They have to pay privately

This isn't true right?
People eating themselves to death? **** them, don't give them money! Do good things, repair roads, get more police officers on the streets, do something worthwhile! *tears hair out*

Well, time to stock up on cakes, cola and pizza.
