Ivory Snooker balls...

Hi guys

My grandad has gave me 3 ivroy snooker balls to sell or keep as he was going to throw them out. He got them from my grandmums dad. They are about 60 odd yearold.

As there is only 3 of them I dont think they are worth anything unless a buyer wanted them to carve nto figures. But with the ivory laws now can I sell them? And does anyone have anyidea how much they would be worth?

Oh thats ok then. Pitty not even being able to find out how much they are worth. But know the rules are very tight on ivory now a day.

I'm sure I remember reading "antique ivory" is ok to sell, have a look around on google.

I didn't realise the law would be that strict on things that have been in the country so long. My dad's got a cane which we believe to be ivory, looks like a blind man's cane. Suppose if it is ivory, it doesn't have a value as you can't sell it

EDIT: I thought as above, that they would be fine as antiques.

I'm sure it's perfectly fine to sell ivory if it's antique.

ivory can only be traded if it pre-dates 1947, before which it is regarded as antique.

But you would have to prove its provenance I imagine.

See that would be the problem we dont have any documents with it. So can they date ivory with looking at itor shall I just put them on my shelf and forget about it

Put them on your shelf for a few more years

Refer to them as your balls.

Looks like they stopped making Ivory Balls in the mid 1800's so I don't think you'll have any problems selling as antiques.
