Power-Mad Policeman

If he didn't show a warrant card then he's almost certainly not a police officer: they carry the card at all times.

And FWIW, the law says you must stop when requested to by "an officer in uniform". Which is why the police officers in unmarked cars still wear uniform. No uniform=no stop. Unless they wave an MP5 at you, in which case I suggest you do what the nice man says.

yup

we have a special constable at work, and even though he's only a special he carrys his warrant card

unless he produced any kind of identification its some random nutter, as the police control have said.

Personally i wouldnt have pulled over, id have locked the doors and kept driving. Upon seeing a car madly flashing its lights at me, my first instinct would be to do anything but stop ! Very most id have done was slow to let him pass.

and for what its worth, any police officer who'se had their driving training, would know its more than dangerous to try and pull that sort of stunt. Speeding in their own car and trying to catch another road user with no visible signs of it being a police car is just going to worry and confuse people.

I hate this "I had to do speed to catch you up", of course you did I can get to the speed limit quicker than you which means I will pull away untill you reach the same speed. You will then have to speed to catch me. I swear they have no common sence.

My friend was convicted, fined £1000 and banned for 6+ months due to doing at least 120mph as that's what officer had to do to catch him. No evidence was produced and he was also done for dangerous driving as apparently he was racing another vehicle. They never pulled the other vehicle despite the office in pursuit calling in back up to intercept them. They just wanted to pick on a young guy driving a newer Mercedes and they made an example out of him in the local press too.

I'm not anti police but sometimes there are more time wasting jobsworths than ever. A friend of mine and I were parked up at McDonalds eating some E numbers before we went out for a little drive after work. A police car pulled in and stopped near us while we sat talking parked next to each other. The car then moved to the exit of the car park. 5 mins later another police car pulled up behind us a blocked us in and the officer seemingly called in our plates then after some time came over for a chat asking about the cars etc.

My friend had just bought his car so was waiting for his V5 so they quizzed him about that and he showed them the relevant documentation. While this was going on I got out my car to stretch my legs and the officer turned his attention to me and instantly accused me of drinking , his beady eyes popping out his head and our noses 1" apart. I said all I've had to drink is what's not left in that large coke sat in the care there. He then said nothing jumped in his car then both police cars drove off.

What a waste of 30 mins they could have spent finding real criminals. It certainly didn't need two cars, and we got no real explanation to this entrapment, I wasn't even asked to produce anything, I was just accused of drinking!

Exactly.

So the thread title is misleading and all the "****ing jobsworth" posts are complete crap.

Probably a PCSO or HATO on a power trip. Personally I would have speeded up, especially if it was a twisty road :p

I'd have prolly waited for a passing opportunity, indicated left and slowed down (I don't like having Mr BMW trying to park in my boot, so I tend to let them to it). Then when he didn't pass I'd just keep going at the speed I had been. If he'd kept flashing I'd have put my rear fogs on.

I'd he'd suceeded in stopping me, I'd have asked for his name and number, 2 reasons, 1 proof he's a police officer, 2 to report him for speeding.

I think reporting him for impersonating a police officer would be more likely to get him in trouble than reporting him for speeding :p

Unless of course he was a real police officer. In which case they probably wouldn't care anyway.

no stopping in an unmarked police car no matter how many times they flash. I await for them to call a marked car if they want to pull me over.

are you referring to cops driving in their own cars, or proper unmarked cars used by traffic police etc.. ?

you can spot an proper unmarked police car without 2 many problems. Flashing blue lights, LED sign in the back saying police, strobing head lights and sirens usually give it away

If you're going to run away from one of the proper ones saying "im not stopping for an unmarked car" you could land yourself in serious trouble

I would not have stopped. If there are no blue lights then you can claim you thought it was a normal car (average crazy BMW driver). If he didn't have ID on him I wouldn't have even listened to him. And yes as said lol finally as it is illegal for him to speed while off duty I would have explained that I was doing 60 and he has no way of proving otherwise in his car with no proper equipment and for him to catch up he must have been speeding. OWNED.

But I am not sure about jobsworth, I mean he didn't get any money from you or a fine, would have to be really sad to get a power trip from that or he might know or have kids there.

Hmm, and off duty policeman has no power to pull you over. Perhaps he was driving inconsiderately when flashing his lights at you. How far would he have gone to pull you over? Did you see his warrant card?

I got pulled tonight on the way home from work at about half 11 for two reasons apparently. Firstly there are a lot of burglaries in the area (between Coldon Common and Twyford just south of Winchester)

Secondly, I was going "way too fast" when I passed the parked police car. It was an NSL stretch and I was coming down a hill at an indicated 54-55mph when I passed them.

I think they were just bored and had nothing better to do. Probably the same thing happened to you only with an arrogant jobsworth. Maybe he wasn't even a cop, just a saddo playing pretend.

I've been pulled by bored coppers before. They stopped us all getting out of the car and told us they had had reports of a car similar to ares causing lots of problems in my friend's town. Total crock of ****.

I also got pulled in the Elise for having a dirty number plate from road salt, despite cleaning the car an hour before I set off into my journey. £30 fine.

Bored coppers.... what are you going to do, generally they fail to catch real crims. Perhaps they feel better for actually stopping someone and having a vent.

WOW so its not just me that has fell for this. I had a simular situation with a rusty red metro and me in my kitcar. My brake light switch on the kitcar only comes on with moderate pressure so slighty slowing down for something wont illuminate the lights (i know i have changed it now). But i also use the gears a lot to slow down too adding to the problem.

Well, this happened in a 30 zone before an island when after the island a metro was less than a metre from my back end. i watched the driver thinking he knew me but then decided when the road opened to a NSL i planted the throttle, still keeping in the speed limit i was now behind another car so was going 45 ish, he came flying up behind me flashing his headlights and waving all over the place. i watched him for a good 1/2 mile and then decided to pull over in an entrance to a farm (off the country road to not block it), he pulled up infront of me blocking the road, wound he passengers window donw and told me he was off duty and my brake lights didnt work. i tried to explain aboutt he switch (remember it has passed its SVA and MOT like this) and told him to follow me to a better place to pull over (you would have thought he should have suggested this:rolleyes:). Down the road i jumped out and lay under the rear of my car to find if it was indeed working, he walked up and gave me some abuse and told me to go straight home to fix it. as he walked off i demanded his PC number. He was stroppy all the time. My lights werent working (fair cop) but as he pulled off i smacked the lughts and they came on! lol

i have no problems being pulled over for this, but what i dont understand is 'IF' he was a cop why would you pull right up behind a car which you as a cop have spotted its brake lights arnt working? then give some abuse and so on?

I think he wasnt a copper (and hope really as if he is we are all doomed), but think he was looking for me to brake test him so he could smack into me then claim its my fault the lights arnt working.

I got very shacken and revengefull about it and nearly spend a few evenings waiting for him in my 2 tonne range rover. but just thought he is a looser in life and the next person he tries it on might stab him saving me the trouble.

I will now never stop for a car without its blue lights on.

I think you and i have been jooped by a low life who thinks they are a copper.

ps, this thread had turned into a good/bad cop one and to add my 2 pence worth, the 12 ish times i have talked to the police only once have i been satisfied THEY did their job correctly and that time it was a female! i think that says it all, some of the worse ones would have made me rich if i had a video recorder "if you dont shut up i will find something wrong with your car and the judge will believe me rather than you"!!!!!!!!!!!!.
