I've just had an encounter with the worlds most power-mad/job loving policeman.

My girlfriend and I were on our way back from watching Sweeny Todd at the Odeon in Derby. We took the twisty road back for a bit of fun as I've just got my 207 Sport. I was keeping to the speed limit, and I know most of you won't believe me but I swear on my genitals that I was, although I admit I may have been too close to the Escort in from as when he decided to slam on his brakes and turn without signalling I got a bit close (though still stopped with plenty of room)

After the Escort incident we continued our journey home, sticking to or just below the 60mph speed limit. I may have been cornering quickly but it's a 207 Sport with brand new decent tyres, not a bus with wheels made of cheese.

About halfway back I saw a 5 Series fly up behind me with his headlights flashing. I figured it couldnt be a police car as he'd have his blues on so I kept going. It was only when he got right behind me, still flashing away, that I decided to pull over.

He wound down his window and informed me that he was an off duty police officer and that he'd had to do "some real speed" to catch me up and that I needed to be more careful.

1) I wasn't speeding. I know I wasn't speeding. My girlfriend knows I wasn't speeding. Even my cat probably knows I wasn't speeding. I may have been going quickly around the bends but I wasn't driving dangerously, I had plenty of visibility and the conditions were good.

2) If he was off duty and he reckons I was speeding then how did he catch me up? On-duty police officers can speed without breaking the law but not off duty ones.

3) Sitting right up my **** flashing your headlights when you already think I'm speeding and driving dangerously is a good idea is it? Because it's not likely to put me off in the slightest.

Chuckle :p

Don't worry about it - you wont hear about it again and you've not been nicked.

I thought you went for a hoon?

The last thing I'd have done is stop on an unlit road for some nutcase flashing his lights behind me. I'd have sped up!

I was more of moving over to one side than pulling over, that's when he pulled along side.

And like I said... 207... speed up to try and pull away from a 5 Series? :p

No blues no stop. People like this have issues and to be honest I would have reported him. Did he produce ID?

Coulda been any old psychopath. Lucky he wasn't trying to keep up with me, I don't take kindly to people chasing me down flashing their headlights. They're more dangerous than yourself.

So the limit was 60 and he said to you "I've had to do some real speed to catch you?"

I would have replied "what, like 61mph?!?" :p

ZOMGZ SPEEDING!

I seriously hate power mad police officers. Give the rest a bad name.

Did you explain the basics of physics to him? Of course he had to drive fast to catch you. To drive at the same speed would mean he'd never get any closer.

Just to clarify I waited until we were in a village and pulled up opposite the offie before I stopped, wouldn't have just pulled up in a layby on an unlit road.

Didn't even think to get a badge number etc, tbh I was a bit shook up with it all and not thinking straight. I've got a clean licence so far (almost 3 years with a bike licence so I haven't got a clue how :D) and I need it for work hence me not going overboard with the "dangerous driving".

So he did not even prove he was plod? I would report him ASAP as someone impersonating an officer and give a description of the car etc.

If he is a copper there's still no way in hell should he be allowed to do that, what if he'd done it to some lone female driver who could easily panic, it could result in a very nasty situation.

+1 report him. Even if he is a copper, report him.

For my money, blatant randomer on a power trip. These 5-series owners are a bit nuts ya knoo.

yep agreed with above, phone it in if you got his plate even better
tbh if it was me i would have kept going to the nearest police station in a situation like that.
