help me choose a car!

Point stands. Either you are on a budget, in which case insurance is a concern thus you spend a few grand or you have stacks of cash, in which case insurance isnt an issue.

I would question the logic in £10k on a 'normal' car if you are not into cars in a big way anyway. A £5k Focus deos anything a £10k normal car does. Except shed an extra £5k in value.

No seriously you don't have to spend £10k to get yourself a good car. Surely as you have just finished uni it is useful to save yourself £5k and get a good condition 1.6 Focus. Plus like Fox said, you will get less depreciation. Overall saving yourself money.

this is obviously getting nowhere. doesnt matter.

Ok, I recommend a Corsa 1.2 SXi. Get a nice 07 plate one and insurance for £10k. It'll say 07 on the numberplate and all your friends will think you are proper bo.

What did you expect? This is a forum for car enthusiasts, as if people are going to willingly recommend you spend £10k on a load of mundane zzzness.

I bet its all financed anyway, you dont have £10k to spend on a car do you? You have £200 a month, every month, for the next 10 gazzilion years. Monthly commitments whilst at Uni = bad idea.

its a car forum on a computer based board that happens to have car enthusiast using it.
it is a general forum for all sorts of car questions

sometimes the downfall of this forum is that it has people who are too enthusiastic about cars.

(not saying any of you are wrong in what you are saying).

it was a simple question (which some people obviously think there to good to answer, "car enthusiasts"). And where exactly does it state that if your not a "car enthusiast" you cant ask anything? I think your speaking for yourself personally Fox.

All I asked was for some suggestions of cars up to 10k. now to anyone with even an once of common sense this means not a 1.2 corsa. as you suggested.

but as i said doesnt matter now ive posted somewhere else, hopefully get a better response from there.

It says nothing of the sort and nobody has implied anything of the sort.

You asked a question and the people on this forum gave up their time to offer you their opinion. Nobody told you to go away, nobody told you are not entitled to ask a question, people just gave you an opinion you didnt want to hear.

Newsflash: We are not your personal Autotrader searchers. You ask here, you get our opinions based around the question you've asked. If you just want a list of £10k cars with a very broad criteria then Parkers is your friend.

You told us nothing about what you wanted from a car - just it must be less than £10k and have 'low insurance'.

but as i said doesnt matter now ive posted somewhere else, hopefully get a better response from there.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

The point remains that if you are 19, at Uni, and just want a normal car, why spend £10k on it? What will the extra £5k get you? The only reason I brought the enthusiast thing into it is becuase its easier to justify the extra money if cars are something thats very important to you, thats all.

lol,

you obviously never read the opening post (which ive now deleted) correctly.

@ your toys and pram moment :p

And they all got advice as well. Nobody refused to help you, they just helped you in a way you didnt expect. You asked for a £10k car with low insurance. Obviously people are going to wonder why you are being tight on insurance if you've got £10k to spend. It's only natural to think that.

Nobody will ever know now you've had your hissy fit.

You sound like the perfect VW Golf owner - you'd get a nice 2.0 TDI Match for £10k.

Why not go for a Toyota Yaris - That'll eat up your £10k, insurance should be cheap too.

While you're at it, take out finance, cause we all know you don't have £10,000 in the bank - make sure you spread it over 6 years too. Pay your insurance monthly as well.

Or, screw all that, pick up a decent used car for <£1000 (which you can actually afford) and worry about expensive cars when you've got the money (or the finances available) for them.
