Long story but I'm owed an amount of tax that would make life a lot more comfortable at the moment and was just curious whats the time scale on it if anyone knows? Currently got to wait a week for my P45 to come through. But once I've sent it off with the P50 whats the turn around time for the money back in my account does anyone know?

Just sat through 30minutes of hold to find out what to do (slipped my mind to ask) and its a 0845 number so i don't fancy calling again. Not the end of the world just curious to see if anyone else has done this recently and knows how long it takes.

I'm in the process of reclaiming tax owed from the year ending 5th April 2006. I sent off the relevant information near the start of December, not heard back from them as of yet. Giving them until 1st February then ringing again.

its more than 6 months
it's something like 2 years
ironic seeing as they can claim tax from you for upto 7

No no i don't mean whats the time limit to claim it back i mean whats the turn around time of the p45 and p50 forms and money back in your account :)

Surely if they have your money you can claim interest on it ?

Then they might send it back quicker :p

EDIT - I'm owed £500 back and I havn't claimed it yet..

Tax is a joke, i am in the middle of trying to get tax back and even though my ex employer eventually put me on the right tax code they didnt reimburse me my tax so i rung hmrev and explained the situation they were like you will probably get it next year so when you get a new job hand ** p45 to them and ask for a re-assessment and then you should get your money... I was like your joking... he says nope - thats hot it works... its all a con!z

Did you hand in a P45 from your previous job to your current job?
That's an automatic tax reimbursement, that your previous job will pay you once you've been put on a proper tax code.

and no, you don't get the interest

im owed £144, im gonna do it this weekend before i forget, it was more than 6 months ago that they took it from me :( should still be able to get it though.

It's 6 years guys

This also applies for the tax man too...

ie The tax man has 6 years in which to bang you up too if you've been fiddling your taxes, Just remember to keep those receipts

oops OP was talking about how long the IR take to process things... I would have thought a minimum of 4 weeks. They're even slow at accepting payments ! :o

I don't have any idea whats going on. So i got part 2 and 3 of my P45 in some ditch? or on someones desk at IR? who knows! grr.

Gonna ring them up tomorrow but I imagine they won't know.

Frustraighting becuase im gonna be starting a new job soon and they are going to want my P45. I won't be able to give it. Ill be on the wrong tax code again and we are at square one!

Stupid tax system!

Same, I've been waiting about 4 weeks now too. Going to give them a ring soon to find out what's going on!

I got my cheque on Friday morning (22nd) walked up the bank with a nice grin on my face!

So around 2 and a half months for mine to arrive.
