The Sopranos

going by that it doesnt look anything special, but its probably like sopranos a slow start.

Well no 4 minute video is going to show you the complex, twisting, intelligent story that goes on for 5 seasons, or give a good look of the superb acting. It's a slow paced, intelligent show. More than any other TV show The Wire is like a proper novel and has to be watched from beginning to end, you wont be able to properly appreciate it from clips (though there are many incredibly intense and memorable scenes).

Here's a quick example of the writing:

Chess as an analogy for drug trade

Also, Charlie Brooker (probably the best known TV reviewer in this country) has altered his opinion slightly since that video review:

"A while ago, I reviewed The Wire on my low budget, miserabilist BBC4 show Screen Wipe, calling it "the best TV show of the past decade" in the process. I was wrong. I hadn't seen the fourth season then, which subsequently convinced me it's the best TV show since the invention of radio." -The Guardian

My wife came home with series one from the library last week, 13 episodes for £2. I've got a lot of viewing to do over the next few days or it'll be another £2.:D

:D

The best thing is, he's not wrong. The Wire is utterly amazing, and season 4 was the best TV I've ever seen. Season 5 looks to be equally amazing too.

We need a Wire thread. Every decent TV thread seems to get sidetracked into talking about it, I've noticed. ;)

It just gets better and better! I own all the boxsets bar 6 as I am struggling to actually find one that contains all the episodes.

I received the full collection for xmas, and have never seen any episodes of it before.

Heard it's good, looking forward to working my way through it. :)

Edit: "Posts: 1,337" only took me just over 5 years. :D
