Sweeney Todd

Saw Sweeney Todd on Saturday :(. Didn't have much choice as the other half loves the musical (which I saw 2 years ago and didn't enjoy although it was a pretty poor production). The film is a faithful reproduction of the stage show with all but (aproximately) 3 songs from it in the film. I didn't enjoy this film although I thought it looked very good; nice and dark. Depp was perfect as Todd and his singing wasn't too bad either.
Definately much better than Phantom of the Opera though!!!!

Saw this saturday, i didnt think it was too bad. Looked very good and was very atmospheric, but found it too dark in places. But all in all a fairly good film.

I saw one song being sung in the trailer, thought it might just be a random one off

Thanks for the heads up though, will steer well clear of it

Musicals for the lose

Thanks for a heads up! I cannot for the life of me stand musicles. My mate wants me to go see it, I was tempted, but not a chance now :D haha.

I heard an interview a few weeks ago where someone involved in the film said that they have not mentioned its a musical anywhere to stop it from putting people off watching it, because musicals obviously arnt cool.
Ive never been a huge fan of them but I wouldnt mind seeing this it looks quite good.

I'm surprised so many people not going to watch this because its a musical.

Its not as if it's like a Grease singing and dancingesque musical.

I saw it last night and really enjoyed it.

Musical just suck ,although greece was good :D

I shall watch the film but in a few years time when its free ,i'm not paying for it !

It's a musical. Please know this before you watch. Good screenplay, gory too, but it is a musical. I hate musicals. It should have been a film.

Thanks for the heads up.

After talking the missus into going to see it, I've now got to talk her out of it:mad:

Indeed, saw the trailer when watching i am legend. Thought it looked alright but then in one part he burst into song.

Thought **** that, if it's a musical i'm not watching it.

I HATE musicals. They are so warm and happy. I bet even this Sweeney Todd comes out warm and happy somehow. ******* musicals. Argh.

Even the "gay bit" in spiderman three had me climbing the walls.

Not to spoil anything but I'll just say it doesn't in any way end up warm and happy :D

I, for one, cannot wait. I love musicals and Stephen Sondheim (the guy who wrote the original stage version) musicals are my absolute favourites. I've seen it on stage before anyway, just looking forward to this for the Depp/Burton-ness and Helena Bonham Carter.

Oh and I'm a girl so I'm allowed to say I love musicals :D

So..... Anyone seen it yet? Worth bothering?

Me and my mate were gonna go tonight but I didn't realise it was a musical.

I went to see this at the theatre with my parents when I was younger and I loved it. It was really great on stage and I'm looking forward to seeing the new version too. I do enjoy musicals though and have seen a few on stage.

Plus South Park: The Movie and Team America are both technically musicals, and they're among my all time favorites list.
In no way, at all, is Team America a musical. The South Park movie yes, Team America, no.

Sweeney Todd is personally my favourite musical. It makes a nice change to the sickly sweet nature of more popular mainstream shows.

However, is anyone else getting a bit bored with Tim Burton? His films are very good yes, but I would like to see a film where he can do something different than create a mood of eerieness. I get the feeling he is a bit of a one trick pony. But what a good, if not tiresome, trick.

quality film/musical.

i just got back from watching it and found it very very good!

dark and sinister!

and another thing, why are people so against musicals? you could be missing out on something amazing (and in my opinion you are).

To me its like saying you do not want to watch Brokeback Mountain because its about gays.

I like musicals and I was looking forward to seeing this because of that.

But am I the only one who thought that most of the songs weren't actually that good?

The movie was pretty cool in general though.
