Yeah, I know what you're saying but when I'm helping out a casual gamer they don't really have £80 to spend on a graphics card.

Granted, those are max settings, but high-end cards only getting ~60fps at 1280x1024? Thats with a Q6600 and 2GB XMS2-6400 by the way.
 
No I dont need AA in UT3 just aint that jaggy. Does AA just work forced now? I'll give AA a try but dont wanna have to mess about with other programs besides I got crappy drivers atm and AA is borked.
 
Its not 1680x1050 but I was getting a solid 60fps with the highest settings using an E6600 @ 3.6gig and an overclocked 7950GX2 at 1440x900 (which is basically 1280x1024) with the framrate unlocked in the ini 80% of the time I was getting 100fps or more... I'm not sure if FSAA was working or not as I didn't stop to check - it was enabled along with 16x AF - but I didn't think much of the game and uninstalled it.
 
2600xt handles unreal 3 well, but the graphics are a bit 'washed out' to me and not much better than ut2004

Not much better than UT2004? Hmmm you aint got it all high then have you? The graphics are a lot better than UT2004.

I remember saying how poor the 5xxx series was at the time only to be told by 90% of people they're just as good as the 9800pro...

Can anyone who still has a 9800pro see how it runs? :p

about the same on ut3 but on other games x1950pro is better (i assume you are talking about the pro as even on ut3 x1950XT and XTX are significantly better than 2600xt)

just tried it now on 1600x1200 'shangri la' map on demo maxed out and still found the graphics are bit 'hazy/ washed out'...i don't know...they are good but so is ut2004 maxed out

bioshock, cod4 and crysis have better graphics than ut3 in my humble opinion

You realize you can only go to 3/5 on the graphics settings in the demo? Your post is null and void.
