How can it be so difficult?

Caller: I'm having problems with my email.
Me: OK, how do you get your emails, is it on a website?
Caller: No... I don't know.
Me: Do you use outlook?
Caller: I don't know.
Me: OK, how do you normally connect to your email?
Caller: I click on AT&T and it goes through my office.
Me: OK, so is it a program or a website.
Caller: I don't know.
Me: :(

The solution to that one is simple, tell them to pack their computer up in the box it came in and return it to the manufacturer on the grounds that they are far too dumb to own a computer.

Best one I've had was a phone call from my mum saying that her computer was broken, when I asked what she had been doing she said that she was almost out of hard drive space so had decided to delete a lot of files she wasn't using. She found quite a few in the Windows directory...

i know how you feel mate, we get the same callers here at work...it makes me want to break down and cry. i do like customers who think they're right though :D

lol

It's surprising how many times i have this conversation;

Me: What package are you on?
Caller: I don't know.
Me: Is it business or Domestic?
Caller: I don't know.
Me: How much do you pay a month?
Caller: I don't know.
Me: OK... Which modem are you using.
Caller: I don't know, it's silver.
Me: *Click... Bang*

Two similiar "damn these people who know nothing about tech" threads in 24 hours, could this be the start of a techie revolution?

Working for ISP support I have felt your pain in the past when I was on 1st line.

Just tell them to uninstall Norton. It is the cause of all Email issues!

I have had to talk a deaf person via some kind of talking woman how to telnet into her router to adjust the MTU, check IP settings and flush the DNS, oh yay. And then once we got pings working IE went wonky. Ahh well not as bad as MAC USERS!!!!! NOOOOO!!!!!!!

You are using complex tearms like IE and program, call it the big blue blue E or something equally suitable for someone in playschool.

For my mum we have to say "kiss it goodbye" when we want her to close a program. Thats how she remembers what the big X in the top right corner does

They are the bread and butter calls for IT support. If they wind you up to that extent, then it's time to get a new job.
