ok problem i have been thinking of , if the normal 3870 uses gddr4 how on earth can the 3870x2 use slower gddr3 memory and hope to be faster? even the memory speeds are way slower than the 3870 , and prob wont overclock aas high?

The timings are tighter, the GeForce ccards get away with it, plus the cards are on the same board, so less latency on the GPUs I guess.

GDDR4 cards from ATI haven't been anything special - don't forget they released a GDDR4 version of the X1950XTX running at 2ghz, which was nothing to write home about due to the slacker timings.

Except the cores run @ 825mhz

TBH from what I've seen gDDR4 is just a marketing gimmick at the moment. My GDDR3 can do 2200mhz with far tighter timings than GDDR4

825/1900 seems to be the reference now, have seen a few at 775 maybe early samples.

Just as long as they don't use that awful Qimonda 1ns, like the 8800GTS 512.

i got 2 from ***** today
checking the bios"es" and find out there is 860 lock again on P1. P0 doesn't seem to have lock but not sure

P0 P1? yes there are 2 bioses on one card

memory doesn't overclock high either.... BJ1A but weird... 999 is not reachable

So the usual Samsung 1ns and locked again.

of course its slower imagine putting everything that has in 2 boards in one and + single 3870 has faster ram. :o

like i said before in another thread, 2 seperate cards are always quicker than a 2x card. if you look at benches it seems to be the same every time.

its kinda poor but at least its not too far behind 2 seperate cards

They'll be better on PCI-E 2.0 slots judging by the massive hit they take when not in one, no point getting a one if thats the case, absolute huge market they gona miss out on, as no ones gona spend £300+ on it, and about another £200 for a new mobo for it as well, othewise they gona have to cripple it with their 1.0/1.1 slot boards.
