Jacket ruined, where do I stand?

Hi,

I bought a jacket from USC a couple of weeks ago, it wasn't cheap (£65) and the pattern/logo on front of it have come away in the wash.

It was the first time I've washed it and my Mum said she followed the instructions on the tag and put it through at 30 degrees.

Now is it wrong to think that an item of clothing shouldn't get ruined after 1 wash?

Could I take it back to the shop for an exchange? I don't think I've got the reciept anymore but I paid with my debit card so it will show up on my statement.

Where do you reckon I stand on this?

As long as you need things. I keep them for at least 12 months for things that might still need to be taken back.

Yeah, I usually save them for electrical goods and stuff like that.

Don't really think to save them for clothes.
 
take it back with a bank statement showing the purchase

if you really did wash it correctly then theyve probly had a few taken back anyway and wont argue
 
You always need the receipt for proof of purchase otherwise the shop can turn around and tell you you mightn't have bought it there.

In most shops you can't do jack **** without a receipt even if you wanted to so don't you dare get mad at the people working there. Ask for a manager as soon as they explain that. Managers generally just want an easy time so they'll give you your money back or store credit.

Pretty sure that's not the case. A shop does not legally have to give you a receipt for the goods you purchase, therefore you do not legally have to have a receipt to return them. A bank/credit card statement is enough 'proof of purchase' to comply with any legalities of returning faulty goods..
 
I bought some black swimming shorts from Topman a couple of years back. The washing label said "colour may fade with use".

One wash and they were brown. Brilliant.

No. In fact the trader doesn't have to give you a receipt in the first place so it would be unfair to say that you had to produce one. However, it might not be unreasonable for the shop to want some proof of purchase, so look to see if you have a cheque stub, bank statement, credit card slip etc., and this should be sufficient.

Difficult to prove you didn't wash it wrong.... Maybe your mother didn't follow the instructions.

Also you say its a jacket?
I've got lots of jackets and I wouldn't consider putting many of them through a washing machine, especially on anything other than a very gentle cycle.
 
just kick up a fuss, see if your jacket is on the rail in the shop or something, or pretend your calling your dad to get down to the shop immediately <--- always worked a treat for me lol !
