Traffic fine - name miss spelt

I ran a red light whilst driving my g/f car and as expected the fine was sent to her, she filled in the form with my details on as i was driving and sent it off. When they sent the form to me it had my correct address on but they spelt my surname wrong (missed a letter out) but there are variations of my name like that. Any how i filled the form in and put all my details on the back including my name (spelt the correct way) and sent it off. I get the fine this morning requesting payment and my drivers licence but it still has the incorrect spelling of my name on.

1. do i ring them up and set the record straight and pay

2. Can i legally just ignore the letter as it technically isnt correctly addressed to me

You did the crime so pay the fine.

Ive every intention of paying it just annoys me that they have twice been given my correct details and twice they've spelt it wrong..............they obviously miss spelt it the first time but the second time they failled to check the details i gave them with what they had.

I don't know, maybe he was genuinely suggesting he could get away with it just because of a misspelt name. That would be pretty stupid so I was giving him a little more credit than that.

Can't be legally binding if they don't know your name can it. You can go about correcting your details with them or as you say ignore it which will evevntually result in more pain for both parties (you and them).

Surely if you ignore then it'll go back to your girlfriend so she'll be in trouble as she originally supplied the drivers details.

As its obviously a simple clerical error, you still have to pay. And if you don't, expect it to go to court, where the judge will throw the book at you for trying to sneek out of it.

Yep i really hate red light jumpers.. Some guy i knew was killed like this a few years ago just because some scumbag was in a rush. Get the fine paid and DONT DO IT AGAIN!!!

If you go down the "That's not me" route then your girlfriend gets a £500 fine and 6 points for failing to identify.
