Here's a demonstration some people put together using endorphin, the physics software that's going to be implemented into GTA IV. It's not a video of the game, per say, but it shows what you can probably expect from character AI-environment interactions and the physic involved. This is also probably a pretty amateurish representation, so I would expect what's actually in the game to be even better. Still it gives a pretty good representation of how awsome this **** will be.

Looks cool - I hope it does have kick ass physics like this.

That tech is also being used in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (see it's thread for some videos of it in action). I'm a bit sceptical that this is just someone taking the videos that were on you tube and putting 'GTA 4' on the opening credits, especially as Rockstar are not listed as a customer on Endorphin's homepage.

Edit: actually looking at it, they have two technologies, Endorphin and Euphoria. Endorphin seems to be 'canned' animation which is referenced in the above video, Euphoria is the 'zomg a crate is heading for my face, I should duck' on the fly animation seen in Force Unleashed.

seen a few of these fanboy rants, some of details are true but some are so very wrong its untrue & biased or based on early ports and early development kits. Just smells of xbox360 fanboy blogness. If the game is that bad on the ps3 then TBH Rockstar deserve a slap - other developers have no troubles with the PS3 so why should they.

Thanks for the link. While I do enjoy any article that legitimately puts the boot into the PS3 this article looks like it was pulled from one of the fanboy wars that spring up on this forum and thus I'd take it with a skip-full of salt.

SiD you have shocked me with your comment, why would you take pleasure from reading something that puts the boot into the PS3? Did they do something to hurt you?

I'm not Sony's biggest fan, they are arrogant they've been knocked down a peg or two by MS this gen, and well deserved in my opinion, not so cocky now.

But I don't want either MS or Sony to fail, because the competition makes for better consoles and games, better for the gamer all round.

What the.... why did anyone even feel the need to write that? :S We haven't even had anything to compare the two versions yet! It may have been a little more useful if it wasn't so biased and subjective.

I look at it in two ways. I try to be fair and unbiased in my comments as possible, as I'd agree that console competition benefits consumers as it results in higher quality products. However from a critical point of view I am not a fan of Sony's arrogance (i.e. anything that comes out of their PR department) and treatment of their consumers and fan base. I own a PS2 and a PSP, the latter of which I brought purely on the basis of the hype they whipped up before release. However their downright lies about their products as well as their disregard for the European market (how long did we wait for the PSP and PS3?) means that I refuse to buy another Sony product. People have replied before that what I'm doing is snobbish and makes no difference to Sony, but the only way to teach Sony to respect their consumers is to not buy into their rubbish.

Of course this leads me to the point of hypocrisy. Even though the PS3 now has a fair few good games and Blu Ray is likely to come out on top, I will refuse to buy one even when they are a reasonable price. That is my decision. What it does mean though is that I'm not stupid and will make comments on these forums about the successes and failings of both of the consoles (e.g. point out the blatant fanboy-ness of that blog post above) and try my hardest to repress my anti-Sony feelings.

(Sorry for the long post and OT-ness)

I think its fair for you to think that way mate as you've been let down by Sony time and time again, I only got a PSOne and PSTwo in the last few years so I've not been affected by there arrogance so much, even though I know it does exist.

I actually feel similarly to you about Microsoft, I am not a big fan of their Operating Systems but being forced to use them everyday as part of my job doesn't help that. The whole RROD issue with the 360 is part of the reason why I sold my 360 over a year ago, and also the fact that I had a really nice gaming PC. I wouldn't buy another 360 now until the HW issues are sorted, I certainly wouldn't put any more of my money into a company that imo has treated its customers like crap.

I'm not a fanboy, and I know your not either SiD, I was just worried you were turning into one with your comment above, but now you have explained it I can see where your coming from and agree with you.

I can see where you're coming from to an extent, and in the past it was also Sony I would criticise for releasing exccedingly expensive add ons and accessories making the cost of their product much higher than it initially appeared to be.

This time round, it's different though IMO. Sony are the ones with the complete console, hard drive, wifi, hd playback, self charging wireless controllers etc. all for £280 now. The 360 on the other hand, needs wifi adaptors, has expensive hard drive upgrades, needs a whole seperate box for hd, controllers need extra rechargeable battery packs etc. etc. and the whole lot weighs in well over £400.

It's only fair I feel, where Sony took stick for exactly the same thing, Microsoft should now but I don't see it happening. Instead now, instead of it being 'reaming the consumer for more money' its 'providing choice' etc. the hypocrisy of it all annoys me a bit, as i genuinely think Sony have turned it round this generation and deserve a bit of recognition. Which is why this generation is the first time i'll ever be buying a Sony games console.

Well I am a sucker for art books, but I'm not sure that GTA's artwork, as beautiful a game as it looks, would get a place on my shelf. It's just too normal. Now artwork for say Mass Effect, that's worthy of an art book.

So normal edition for me methinks.

If you like artbooks I really recommend the book for Assassins Creed, it's brilliant.

Yep, it is. It should be the benchmark for all future releases. Mass Effect is good, but it doesn't show any wireframe renders which is a shame.

I don't really understand people who have 'feelings' or 'relationships' with hardware manufacturers, either you like the games enough to get on with the console or you don't. I think Sony have some funny, insane people for example, but in the end they don't affect my view of their creation but something like Uncharted and Warhawk does. Conversely, I love Nintendo to bits because of the NES and SNES days (the best ever days of gaming) but I wouldn't touch the Wii with a bargepole until enough substantial games of my choosing come out.
