So is it actually free or what? Ive looked around and have had mixed responces. I mean the other month I literally went on the earth thing for about a few minutes and it racked up £15 from downloading some of the maps. However ive heard people are downloading the maps and apps such as route 66 etc. Does this mean its all free or what? What would you recommend me doing. Thanks
 
The GPS device is free to use (By which I mean getting your longitude and latitude).

You'll need to connect to the internet if you wish to download maps (or indeed, download anything), which your provider may charge you for if you're not connecting over wifi. The default mapping application does not, by default, have the maps on the memory card. You can download them on a pc and transfer them using a seperate application).

You can also get third party software that can work with GPS - Google Maps for Mobile is free, but requires you to download data as you go, or paid-for software, such as Route 66, which has all the maps included.
 
As stated, the default nokia GPS programme will use your wap/3g/gprs to download maps as you go. I use route 66, it works well and as the maps are included, no extra charges.
 
I find the internal GPS chip pap. Route 66 is about 50meters out. Co Pilot is slightly better, but it aint no TomTom :). And should it get cloudy, it will take prob 5 mins to get a signal!
 
If it was purchased then you should be able to get the internal GPS fine. If not then you need to follow some slightly complicated procedures.
 
Does recognise the interal gps device now, managed to do a few tweaks. Only problem now is trying to get a satalite signal, stood outside in the road for a few mins to no avail. This doesnt cost me nothing but just using the GPS right? Pretty sure it doesnt but just checking

Have you got the latest n95 firmware update? Mine connects very quickly with A-GPS!

What network are you with Adam?
 
N95 8gb GPS is totally fine. I drove to London from South Wales with it and it got me there no problem. I used Garmin XT. It recalculated routes quickly enough and also refreshed the screen quick enough when going around roundabouts.

You can get hold of the POI and speed camera databases for it with a bit of searching... and if you have a good data plan you can get real-time traffic info etc. If I were you I would give serious thought to going on a network that provides a good data package for cheap!:)
