Do you still buy CDs?

- I buy CDs regularly as well as download

I prefer having a physical CD. If you shop around then they're virtually the same price as downloaded tracks from iTunes and are DRM free. I also get option of ripping to whatever bitrate I want and I can lend the CD to a friend if I like. It's also good to have a copy on CD in-case my HDD dies.

However, if someone recommends a band or I'm not sure I'll like something, I'll download it first. If it's good then I'll buy it straight away.

So 192 doesn't deserve to be on your PC? It's funny the amount of people who complain about the quality of illegally downloaded files.. oh the irony.

I don't have an illegal music on my PC, as I said I have it as AIFF on my Mac and have the iTunes setting to set it re-encode to 128KB when I put it on my iPod.

I have nice decent hifi my Mac runs through I would rather have it as high a quality as I can.

Yep.

I need the sound quality...

I would use vinyl if it had all the CD's i wanted on it.

Compressed music on iTunes, Torrents and the like are just terrible. Give the sound engineer/music producers credit and buy the proper CD.

I buy almost all my music as CDs unless I can't get hold of it that way or it's download only, which is fairly rare. I'll continue to do so until I can legally download DRM-free music that's encoded in a lossless format -- and at that point I can decide whether I want to re-encode it to a lossy format for use on mp3 players.

For the DRM point, I simply don't trust that I'll be able to play my music in 5 or 10 years time. At least with CDs I'm fairly sure they'll still be readable!

High quality: HiFi, home or quiet listening
-V3 --vbr-new (~175 kbps), -V2 --vbr-new (~190 kbps), -V1 --vbr-new (~210 kbps) or -V0 --vbr-new (~230 kbps) are recommended. These settings will produce transparent encoding (transparent = most people cannot distinguish the MP3 from the original in an ABX blind test). Audible differences between these presets exist, but are extremely rare.

quote is from the eac (exact audio copy) website, thats what i use with the lame encoder considered the best ripping combination (free as well)

To answer i buy second hand cds from the sunday market , sometimes from ebay the only thing ive downloaded in the past few months was in rainbows , bought all their emi cds for £1.50 each

I always buy CDs. It's always nicer to have something in your hand, and I find that the quality is almost always better. I don't ever download music, but I quite often put my music on my iPod, as it's much easier to carry around than a CD Player with all my CDs. I don't expect that this will change in the foreseeable future, so long as I still have a working CD Player.

- I buy CDs regularly as well as download

Download stuff if I like it enough I will buy the CD within a six month period. Bought 4 brand new CDs recently. Have another 3 in mind at the moment.

Don't buy music online anymore if I can help it as the quality is so bad.

Yes I buy more CD's than ever, about 35-40 in 2007, compared to only a few a year when they were £14 or so in shops a few years back.

Usually pick them up Online or in the Supermarket for between £5-7 when they have been out a few weeks, but if its someone I really like then I get it first week for no more than £10 usually.

I like a few others on here also prefer having a hard copy and I also like checking out the Cover, Photos, Artwork etc and sometimes you may also get a Bonus CD or DVD for your money too.

Never bought download music. If I'm buying it, want something to show for it. It's all about having the artwork and something physical on your shelf.

Yup, I regularly buy CDs so can rip to any quality level I like with zero DRM. They're only about £8 online!

Plus it sounds better on my sound system.

I still buy CD's and infact buy more than I used to . Thanks to free ;) downloads I can try out bands I'd never bother with then buy the album if I like it .

Free ;) downloads have greatly expanded my musical taste and given the Industry even more of my money :)

Yep, exactly the same for me also, word for word that is what I was going post.

I mostly buy CD's. Don't think I've downloaded anything since years ago when Napster was first really used. I mainly listen to classical music and for most of the specialised stuff it can only be bought on CD.

If I like a band or artist, I will go out of the way to buy a CD of theirs, which is difficult as all popular internet stores don't have the cd I want in stock.

I never buy New CDs....dont see the point to be honest...if i find an album i REALLY like then yes i'll go out and buy it but dont bother with music to be fair
