I’m thinking of getting a new watch that I can wear everyday. I have a few nice old watches, a 1964 gold longines as well as a gold 1896 Waltham pocket watch which are both beautiful but I need something more water friendly!

I have always loved the look of the busy looking breitling chronographs but unfortunately they are out of my budget at the moment. I like gold, however tacky some may think it looks. I was looking at Seiko’s as I know they are well made and generally well regarded in my kind of budget (150-300).

I have been looking on the high street and for some reason Seiko’s seem to be a lot more expensive in the shops than they are on say ebay for example. I have no idea why this is if any one is able to enlighten me?

I’m looking at perhaps the following (i know a lot of people perhaps wont like it!) but if any one has any experience of Seiko’s or any other watch of the same price bracket please share your opinions and ideas. I would be grateful.

My wife bought me a Seiko quartz about 22 years back and it ran faultless with only battery change every 4 years or so. 2 years back she bought me a new Seiko Kinetic, this also keeps time to perfection. Very happy with the brand in the price range of £100 to £350. :)

I got me a Seiko 5 Military Style off the bay at a decent price, have a look there - but as said by CoreRipOffDuo, if it's too good to be true, it probably is. So far, mine's been running flawless :)

Edit: people on the bay may be selling clearance stock / last year's / over stock / off the back of lorries? and the like compared to shops selling them at recommented retail prices, which are usually a good 30% more expensive than what some people can offer on the bay - but more often than not, the shop also offer their warranty on top of it - giving you abit more assurance, however, for a thing like watches... the warranty is often too short compared to its life.

Thanks guys. I was looking at ebay, south-devon-watch-sales to be precise. The feedback seems to be very good and the ratings are all very positive. The price of the watch compared to the high street is about a third and its the genuine article!

So show me one on sale.

I've been collecting watches for about 3 years now, including fakes and i still haven't seen one. Good fakes cost (a lot in some cases) more than a genuine Seiko.

I have a Citizen and I've had Citizens before - they're awesome watches if you want something that looks good but isn't wallet-bustingly expensive
