Im quite peed off cos DiRT still runs very poorly after getting my 3870 card, I think its my xfi sound card, cos when I change the sound qual to lowest possible setting in dirt it improves it quite lot in 6-8 car races.

Imbetween the jerkyness its super smooth and how its ment to run,, but sometimes I play it, its better or worse then other times, now figger that 1 out? Last year I gave vista a go for a few months and that sorted out the jerkyness, but crysis ran terrible in vista cos I had a x1900xt card.

Is there anyway to find out whats causing the jerkyness in dirt, cos I really dont want to go back to vista just to sort it out.

Dirt is a demanding game at high res and settings but a 19" moniter should be ok.
Check what software is running in the background

Make sure your x-fi is in game mode, completely destroys some games by causing them to stutter immensely in vista when set to entertainment mode.

if i understand you correctly you are saying that sometimes the game will play nice and smoothly and the next time you load it up it will run really badly like you have set the gfx settings far too high.

if thats right then i have the same problem every now and then, on the settings i use it runs prefectly but the next time i load up the game it will run like a dog. so what i do is mess about with the settings and save them then put them back to exactly how they were and then restart the game and it runs good again.

The Problem is caused by the "Power Management" on the HD 3870 it Has 3 Power states and is switching when IT thinks the 3D Load is reduced

Use river Tuner to lock it to default 3D speeds before You play the Game ;)

Ive finally figgered out away of solveing the stuttering prob, after meny hours of it p******* me off, you need to set it to "high priority" once in the task manager once its loaded

Is there a command that I can put at the end of the shortcut that will automatically change it to "high priority" automatically?

^^ that is strange. Are you running the game at 1280x1024?. That would show that the CPU is working more than the GPU but you wouldn't think prioritizing Dirt would help.

Have you installed the dual core optimizer?. I know you probably have but I can't think of anything else just now.

Look at your Shortcuts and work out what you need to do using this.

%windir%\system32\cmd.exe /c start "" /high "c:\program files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis SP Demo\Bin64\Crysis.exe" -DX9

That will run Crysis at High, you can obv change to Realtime etc.

I would guess you only need this part : %windir%\system32\cmd.exe /c start "" /high "

This is for Dirt m8, not Crysis.

If you meant for using this with Dirt then I apologise in advanced.

Yeah Im running it at 1280x1024 but still on medium detal, any higher then that the rallys tend to slow up a bit. It is still stuttering a bit on the 6-8 car/buggy races but the high priority has killed most of it. When I reinstalled xp I installed the proper opteron driver, so It souldnt need the dual core optimizer and plus I have no trouble with my other games, as I can run them at full res and max detail, accept for crysis.

Then that is truly strange if it's only the one game. Have you patched Dirt or tried other drivers yet?.

Im running the latest patch for dirt and Im using the latest graphics card drivers, the 8.1s. My system has never liked dirt from the word go, even when I had my fx55 cpu running at 2.78

Thanks very much for sending me the shortcut m8.

Dirt ran fine for me then one day decided it didnt want to work in game with my PS2 controller, sometimes the wheels turn but the throttle/brake seeting has no effect. Ive completely reinstalled the game and patches and reinstalled the controller (which works fine in GTR2).
