Does anyone know if the G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PQ PC2-8000C5 (2x2GB) CAS5 Dual Channel Kit (F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ) is any good? I have a E8400 cpu andwill be using it on a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 board. I am looking to overclock the CPU to 4GHz+
Thanks in advance guys :)

I was just about to post a thread on this myself this very second. Same as you, though I will bet getting E8500. So is this ram guaranteed to run upto 500MHz fsb then? Max voltages seem quite a bit lower compared to the 533Mhz chips on that page, is that an issue? If it is guaranteed for 500MHz then for a 1:1 clock you are pretty much going to be ok ram wise for to overclock these cpus? @89 quid for 4 gig 2sticks seems pretty good deal if this is how you intend to overclock.

It cheaper to buy PC-6400C4 and change the latency to C5 then clocking them to over PC-8000+

Some PC-6400 sticks can clock to over 900Mhz at C4

In anycase you can change the RAM divider to lower the clock closer to stock speeds.

Faster clock speeds doesn't mean this ram is actually fast from what i understand, tighter latency timings are just as important to performance.

like which PC-6400C4, any particular brands?

You are talking about 2 gig sticks there are you? I posted a thread months ago and the opinion was that with PC6400 2 gig ticks you wouldn't get much above 400-425 with them. Admittedly altering CAS wasn't mentioned. Though speaking personally I am looking for something that is guaranteed to work upto 500fsb, rather than hoping it will if the CAS is increased, knowing my luck I will end up with poor clockers. The equivalent PC6400 CAS4 g.Skill looks about 73quid, so not that much difference?

well I can get the following:

Corsair 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz PC2 6400 XMS2 Memory Non ECC Unbuffered CL4(4 4 4 12) E.P.P. Heat Spreader Lifetime Warranty - £55

G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PQ PC2-8000C5 (2x2GB) CAS5 Dual Channel Kit (F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ) - £88.11

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AA1065) - £64.61

What would be the best ones to get?
thanks guys :)

Tight latency timings have practiculy no impact on performance with C2D. Ram speed is everything.
With a C2D system, the most important thing is raw CPU speed, once that is at its maximum then push the Ram to its fastest stable speed always sacrificing timings for speed.

Latency made a difference with Socket A systems as did FSB speeds but now its raw processor speed thats important.

Indeed, I saw no difference in benchmarks with tighter timings at all. The 4gb of ballistix I have will even bench at CAS3 but again it makes zero difference, but when I clock it to 1200mhz, the difference is unbelievable.

Unbelievably there are people on these forums advising others to tighten timings at the expense of speed.

I have the G.Skill stuff, works a treat, running it at PC8500 atm on stock timings without a problem :)

well i went for Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AA1065) - £64.61
