Gamerscore Whores

Like Nokkon said, in many cases it's not a lot different to things many players would do years ago, it just has a score thrown in.
I doubt many, if any, people in this thread do things that they hate doing just to gain a few points. I know I certainly don't.

not my idea of fun going through the same thing over and over not because you like the game

(which is my definition of the title of this thread)

but so you can have a better score than someone else

People play World of Warcraft over and over, people have completed all the Zelda games loads of times, people have completed Final Fantasy 7 into double figures, people have always replayed stuff without a score involved. The score being there is absolutely no different, I just happen to play and complete more games than other people.

Seems Im quite the topic starter! :D

I just love achievements rather than the gamerscore. I love seeing that little achievement box popping up - I even have a .wav achievement ding notification on outlook for incoming mail :o

Since Mass Effect, there's been a distinct lack of quality titles. I'm not even sure of what is coming over Jan and Feb. I love getting achievements though! Lately I haven't the time for gaming, and I end up doing other stuff instead. A good thing too.

I have to totally agree, I couldn't really care less about my gamerscore its actually getting the achievements that it satisfying. I like looking down my list and seeing 1000/1000 on games though :)

I enjoy doing it, not going to stop enjoying what I do just because someone thinks I'm sad

@Haly - I will try to remember that as it does make me stop sometimes :p

You never play with any of us anyway

@Kreeee - I know I don't and its staying that way :p

The only game I like to replay without going for achievements is Halo and thats mostly the campaign, I played through Halo 2's campaign hundreds of times and I could keep playing it infinitely... Same with Halo 3 really except they did kind of ruin it.

I think from reading all of these posts I'm going to do what so many other people do, just lay off majority of average games. There are only a few really good ones out each year (Bioshock, mass, halo etc) which when I get I would like to complete fully. Before I got my 360 I might have possibly bought one game per year! Some of these xbox games just have no replay value in the slightest.

Anyways thanks for the re-assurance and advice guyz :)

I try to get at least 500 of the 1000 points on offer but i have changed my tag that many times i could have had about 15000 points by now :p , at the mo i am getting very bored playing through forza 2 again and i dont see me getting the 970 points i had last time on the game , i also agree with dannyjo about COD4 i can play it loads and i arent bored of it yet .

i play through the game once normally then worry/look for achievements then, i dont want to spoil the game because i think i need to kill some many people etc to get the achievement :)

been doing a lot of old school gaming thou  found myself playing suikoden on my PSX just to see if i could get all 108 characters because i couldnt when i was younger :(

Good game :D I was really proud of myself when I got all 108 at last :)

I'm on msn all the time =/. But yes, I have become a lurker, and you do owe me a completion, I just can't think of anything right now.

I only brought my 360 on Thursday, but I'm addicted to Achievment points :)
Only had chance to play Halo3 for a couple of hours so far but pleased with my 180 points.

I've never looked at achievements, and even if I do sometimes, I never focus on trying to complete that achievement. I just want to get on with the game and I don't find that I get anything out of gettting them, so i prefer to just go on with the game normally. Maybe its good after you've completed/got bored of the game.

Hi all,

You know I’ve been thinking about achievements loads lately – I get myself tied in knots wondering if its sad or if its fun. At the moment I think its fun, I’ve been playing a game because of achievements which I probably wouldn’t have given a 2nd thought to if achievements didn’t exist….but I enjoyed it so much I completed it, and am going back over bits of it to collect things, and I’m really enjoying it.

I think the fact achievements are awarded for doing things you perhaps wouldn’t do if you were merely trying to complete a game is pretty good, and a way for the developers to try to get gamers concentrating on certain bits of the game which they deem worthy.
