18 year old + M5 and 5 friends =

tbh its all about skill over confidence, ive got 320 odd hp under my bonnet and i was younger, however i call myself extremely responsible for my age with that power..

Oh if alcohol was involved then the angle of the story changes imo

equally there are plenty of old farts who think because they're older they've been blessed with driving abilities

Quite agree. That's why if you read my post properly you'll see that I mention everyone in general, of all ages. :)

Just that I believe the number of 'young drivers' outnumber the 'old farts' when it comes to having a dangerous over-confidence in their own ability.

I have no doubt that there are some older drivers who think that their extra experience means that they can handle 'any' situation, and who also end up driving dangerously because of an over-inflated self belief in their driving abilities.

But if you read the part of my post (the bit you quoted) properly, then you'd have noticed that I wasn't excluding older drivers at all. I was merely pointing out that it appears to be more common in younger drivers, something that I would expect most people to agree with.

when youre growing up and learning to drive, you will occassionally end up in a situation. you learn from it as its a relatively small mistake to make

when youre 18 and in a car thatll do 200 odd, on an airstrip (so almost no reference points), if you outbrake yourself (as he did) youll end up flying 200ft into a tree. bad night out

You have a 6-series BMW at 17 or something?

No pity from me here....people don't respect a powerful car and own fault..something similar happened around here, a new driver racing and went head on into a truck. Brothers mate in a fiesta racing around and into a tree, all three dead.
