This company is going to lose a lot of business...

hahaha

not like it's uncommon for garages to have a sly drive though is it?

Whilst I didn't find it hahaha funny, it was posted as a warning about garages doing this, it seems to be allot more common than most people think according to other people.

It's VERY common practice for garages to drive cars home that have been left for tuning work....a guy i know who runs a tuning company afaik doesn't even HAVE his own car, he just takes home whatever he has in the workshop that day! Very big and trusted name in the tuning world, but I'm not going to say who it is due to another reputation they've gained themselves OUTSIDE of the tuning world ;)

Not right at all, but far too common :(

In principal I agree it is not 'right'.. but

If the cars being modified, I'd expect some sort of road time before/after by the garage to ensure that firstly it had no obvious faults before modding, and that any infant mortatily type faults are discovered by the garage, not the customer..

And of course, when modding cars, it's nice to actually drive them for feedback that the mods work well.. how else can you recommend a particular setup to anyone with no first hand knowledge..

I'm in two minds on this one.. it is not right to do it without the owners permission as such, but personally it wouldn't bother me as long as they don't abuse it, and if the inevitable happens, they foot the bill/replace the car..

But this is America, he'll be sued for 10 million, have to give his house/car to the guy becuase the story is on the net and the owner has suffered a life long bout of embaressment.. ;)

I'd agreed that the garage should test drive the car, but once they have called you to arrange pickup, the provision for testing the cars mods is gone, and they are just joy riding.

i remember having a massive fallout with a local garage after a young lad (mechanic at said garage) recognised me in a nightclub and approached then started to talk about how fast my car was and how well it handeled etc
i was fuming to say the least

Don't see a problem with garages test driving the car after having some work done. In fact I don't even blink an eye when my dealer does this after a service or something. It's all part and parcel of a good service.

But dropping your kids off at school in a customer car is clearly not test driving it for work purposes.
