18 year old + M5 and 5 friends =

heh i've been 'driving' since 14 and am now closer to 26 than i'd like, i'm quite sure i'd be able to handle an M5 as i drove one a few times, however i won't be speeding, doing silly manuveres with mates or showing it off.. i guess thats where the age thing comes in :) I know i'm not the best and tend not to take silly risks to gain a few seconds and end up at the same stop light as the guy i left eating my dust. Fastest thing i owned was a 316i a few years back, since then its been big ol saabs and a landrover defender (speed king LOL) since the defender i've gotten a Focus and thats fast compared :D My mum has a 2005 525i and its fun to drive as well.

Pretty much an identical situation to you, i praise the lack of horses under my bonnet.

Oh and as for the top speed thing, my car doesn't go past 95/96 =[ i need to find a hill to see if i can break 100.

thats how i did it ;) :p

the specification says 96! So i don't know if it bad i got it above or not really :/

The only sad part about this is the advice wasn't taken. Who knows his background? Rich parents or successful at 18.

from one of the news articles

Ammirato told forum members he'd had the car for about three weeks. The vehicle is registered to his father, Santo Ammirato, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Daddys money...

He shouldn't have been allowed to drive it.. Full Stop.

500 BHP is too much for a young lad to have, hell 70 bhp in a hatch back is dangerous enough.

In a way kirkland is right. My dad and a lot of people i know are shocking drivers at varying ages and of many years experience. I would happily say i was a much better driver at 17 than they were at 60, needless to say my "skill" as you put it has not increased much through age, however my sense of ability and fear of what can come from pushing it has.
Its catch twenty two, at 17 your just as cpable of learning to drive a powerful car, just in most cases to cocksure to control the need to be silly in one. This is of course not always the case and why i semi agree with Kirkland, and the maturity/experience spouting which hunters at the same time, regardless of what he drives.

Link to Josh asking how he can change from 4th to 5th smoother, very morbid reading his posts and then the posts of others when they realize hes killed himself after advising him how to do it.

Josh said:
I do sometimes make bad decisions but I am young and I do drive safe and I will not endanger the lives of others..and I hope you are not under the impression that I am the one to brag, I have never been that way and never will. Plus I will have pictures up asap with me in the pictures. I have no reason to lie buddy.

****ing hell, RIP kids, let that be a warning to us all, those of us about to drive, and those of us giving people advice on how to drive over the internet. I'm not saying its wrong, but think a bit.

And kirkland, stop lying about what you own/drive, if your dad had enough money to buy a 645i for you to drive in, you wouldn't be asking for a 7-8kish car.

on another article on the original site it said the kid had picked up 4 tickets for speeding in the last 2 years.. hardly suprising

First things first.

R.I.P. to those involved. :(

200ft? Isn't that further than the Wright brothers flew on their first flight?

Yep 120ft.

BMW have been making aircraft engines for years, they just never bothered with Wings....
A light hearted note on an appalling thread.

kirkland, no offence pal, you obviously ,to me & others here, have not got the first clue about driving & experience gained over time.

Lewis Hamilton is a superb driver, but undoubtedly, he will be even better in 10 years time (quite a thought!)

Age should be a restriction with regard to what cars people can drive, in the UK you cannot drive a 500BHP (or any BHP for that matter) heavy goods vehicle before your 21'st birthday, for a damn good reason.

500+ BHP car + rich Daddy = No problem Sir.....

My greatest fear is having to bury my child.
