I'm doing the tough guy in about 5 weeks time, one problem I haven't been training quite as much as I probably should be (averaging 3-4hrs a week exercise), I can run the required 8 miles (just about). But i've had no practice at the obstacle course type stuff.

So I have stepped up a gear or two, is it possible to get myself ready in that amount of time. Considering i'm mainly going for a finish and not a time (albeit a jogging/running finish)

I trained with an old work colleague of mine for the summer one (didn't do it myself), by the end we were doing a few 10k's and a half marathon a week.

If you want to use that as a guide line feel free, he placed in the top 40% iirc. He's doing the winter one too, but he's not trained as much! :O

i ran this jan this year- to be fair as long as you have a decent level of fitness you won't have an issue. It mentally breaks more people - as soon as you start to hit the water hazards you'll feel the cold BIG TIME and thats what I struggled with most. Yes if you're near the back you'll get more rest but you'll also cool much quicker which is bad! Look out for the electric cables after the first through large A frames they'll give you a nice shock!!! Enjoy it mate!

You survived! That's what counts! Looks mental - despite my fitness and strength I think I'd struggle with that! Any injuries?

Apart from a few cuts and scratches to my knees (from have to drag myself through a narrow concrete sewer pipe), no :)

The most demanding thing (from a fitness perspective) imo was the the slalom at the start, where they make you run up and down a very steep hill about 12 times. That really shattered me.

After that it was the cold of the deep water which nearly made me drop out. Couldn't really feel my legs for much of it :p

I think pretty much anyone is capable of doing it, so long as you have the right mental attitude.

Example there were four of us doing it

Bloke 1 probably weighs about 9 stone very slight and is about 5'7" he finished in under 2hrs (like a gazelle very fit)
Bloke 2 probably weighs about 13-13.5 stone, stocky 6'0" he finished in 2hrs8mins (has been training very hard, so he's got a good fitness level)
Me, I weigh 14-14.5 stone i'm stocky 5'9" and finished in 2hrs40mins. I didn't train anywhere near as hard as I should have so i'm just pleased I finished
Bloke 4 weighs ~ 18 stone 6'1", probably does quite a bit less exercise than the rest of us. He finished in 3hrs10mins.

So we all finished including myself and the other large fella
