As above.

Do you DIY it? Do you have a garage that you visit because you can vouch for the good work, or maybe someone you know?

I generally try and do things myself, with a limited set of tools it can sometimes be difficult, and i'm very fussy when it comes to someone working on my car.

My previous vehicles have only been £1000 runabouts (albeit, tarted up ones) so i've just generally stuck to one garage, however the next one is going to be a little more expensive, so i'll probably stick to Indy's or Main Dealers depending on price.

As for the consumables, such as tyres etc i visit a family friend whos been set up for a year now, keeps the place immaculate and its nice to see someone with a bit of passion for what they do for once.

How about you?

Phil

Mercedes Benz main dealer does all my work :D

I pay £65 a month for a full warranty... it includes EVERYTHING... except Tyres. I've had brake pads just replaced and bulbs etc... and a few other things under warranty.

For tyres I visit a local shop which does them at a good price :)

I would like to learn how to service my car myself... It seems soooo easy... I think I might even learn next time... I've had my mate service my second car and it seemed like I could have done it myself.

Audi will do mine, £30 a month including tyres :)

Prior to that, my honda went to the main dealer because they were nearly as cheap as barney's backstreet garage and actually competant.

I've done all the work on my landy myself though, with the exception of the welding, cos I suck utterly at welding :)

It is easy, although newer cars are trickier than older ones to do it properly on. The question is whether it's worth the time it takes you compared to the money you save.

My focus goes to the local garage who Ive been going to for years. My scooby used to go to Subaru4U. Gash name, but amazing service and price.

See, thats one of my problems, if i had a good set of tools, i'm sure i'd take on a lot more of the work myself!

im slowly getting a proper set of tools together myself, but he has a proper full size ramp, (the kind that lifts the car using the body, not a drive on) and a hugeeeee snap on toolbox with everything you could possibly need.

Bit of Both. If I am too busy I have a trusted mechanic recongised as one of the best by the club. If not I will have a go. I love it but stuck bolts are a P.I.T.A

So far done a handful of mods, rear brake discs and pads, numerous pad and oil changes and loads of little bits.

My Advice would be get a manual, join an owners club and see if you fancy it or not. 4x the time estimates in the books/guides and get ready for stuck bolts.

get ready for stuck bolts.

Things like this stop me doing a lot of work on my car. I have done a few things (ie. changing exhaust backbox) and with the backbox, it should have taken about an hour, but it took 2 days, because a bolt sheared and i had to take it to a local indepedent. Thats the problem with working on cars that are over 10 years old!

but on the plus side, i didn't know about this independent before that incident and the guy is brilliant. He is an old school mechanic who charges next to nothing. I get the parts i want myself, and he fits them for me. bargain! :)

Combination of myself, and my dad.

I'll attempt most stuff, and if/when I get stuck, a quick call across to the other side of the garage, and dad's on hand to help ;)

DIY'ing my Rover at the minute, new gearbox and engine mounts. However don't have that many tools so really major or complicated stuff I go to a guy called Darren D.C.S Motors Bristol, good prices an can chat for hours about cars until he realises he's got a car sat in the workshop waiting to be fixed :D
